PMD Wave PRO Review – 3 Easy Steps to Pore-fect Skin *

9th October 2023      Lisa      34 Comments

AD | As a qualified Beauty Specialist, I harp on a LOT about taking care of your skin and the Holy Grail of a clean, glowing canvas. And having previously experienced the amazing effects of the PMD Clean and the PMD Clean PRO, I’m now a dedicated PMD fan. Accordingly, when I was offered the chance to try one of the company’s newest skincare devices, the PMD Wave PRO, I couldn’t say, “Yes, please” fast enough. So, what does it do, and how does it measure up to my beloved PMD Clean PRO (and PMD Clean which I regifted to my teenage daughter)?

    • 2.1. Extract Mode

    • 2.3. Lift Mode

    • 3.2. Blue light therapy
  • 4. Is the PMD Wave PRO worth it?

PMD Wave PRO Device

The PMD Wave Pro is basically an advanced skin spatula. It uses SonicGlow™ Technology with over 7,000 vibrations per minute to break down the dirt and oil from deep within the pores, and leave your skin feeling super clean. It also uses EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) with micro-currents to gently target facial muscles. This lifting and toning action also ups your collagen and elastin production to give you a naturally radiant glow.

The unisex PMD Wave PRO* comes in two colours: London Fog Grey and Blush Pink. It’s one of a range of beauty devices including the brand’s best-selling device, the award-winning PMD Personal Microderm*, the PMD Personal Microderm Elite PRO*, the PMD Kiss*, the PMD Clean*, the PMD Clean PRO*, the PMD Clean Body*, and the new PMD Clean Acne*.

How do you use the PMD Wave PRO?

The ergonomically designed device is suitable for all skin types* and has three settings:

  • Extract mode uses negative ions to help lift and remove debris, dead skin, and sebum out of the pores (use once a week or up to three times a week if your skin doesn’t react adversely).
  • Infuse mode uses positive ions to split skincare products into smaller molecules, allowing them to be more easily absorbed into the skin (use daily).
  • Lift mode uses EMS, helping to give a more toned and youthful appearance (use daily).

pmd-wave-pro-review-holding-03

Like my PMD Clean PRO, the PMD Wave PRO comes with its own charging cord.  And like the Clean Pro, I found using the Wave PRO twice a day meant the charge lasted around 10 days but, as it only takes a couple of hours to recharge, this is really not an issue.

*As with all electrical devices, pregnant women and individuals with pacemakers should consult a medical professional prior to using the PMD Wave PRO.

Extract Mode

Never use this electrical device against dry skin, always dampen your face – I’d recommend fully cleansing your skin so it’s warmer and more pliable. Then press the button to turn on Extract Mode and, with the front side turned down, gently glide in an upward and outward motion. You want to have the concave (dipped) side against your skin.

Thanks to my regular use of the PMD Clean PRO, I don’t have many blackheads (hooray!) but I do have combination skin and an oily T-zone. And it was fascinating to see the white gunk rising to the surface of my nose, chin, and forehead. After wiping it away with a damp cotton pad, I was left with some really clean pores, which looked far less noticeable.

If you have any serious blackheads or whiteheads, you can place the PreciseXtractor™ (the two larger holes at the end of the metal spatula head) over them and gently push down to coax them out. I didn’t have any such blemishes to test during the review period, but I’m sure it works perfectly too. Certainly, the online reviews both on the PMD website and Amazon rave about this function.

Tip: the beeping sound is quite loud when you use the device near your ears. I found using disposable foam ear plugs helped as I seem to have sensitive hearing.

Infuse Mode

Having cleansed your skin, you can move onto Infuse Mode by pressing the button again. Apply your favourite facial oils, serums, or night creams and then turn the PMD Wave PRO over so you’re using the back of the device with its convex (raised) side to gently press your skincare into your skin in an upwards and outwards motion.

pmd-wave-pro-review-infuse-02

I normally use my fingers to apply my skincare products, so did using the PMD Wave PRO make any difference? In all honesty, it’s hard to be absolutely sure, but I think my skin was softer, smoother, and looked more plumped up after a few weeks.

Lift Mode

Before pressing the button again to turn on Lift Mode, mist your face with toner or similar so your skin is moist again. Then, with your fingers on the Touch Points either side of the device, use the PMD Wave PRO in an upward and outward direction. PMD suggests targeting any crow’s feet and lip lines but you can use the device on your jawline, above your eyebrows, and anywhere else you’d like to tone your skin and enjoy a little lift.

pmd-wave-pro-review-holding-04

Tip: beware any open wounds or cuts on your fingers when using the Lift Mode, the EMS microcurrents can sting!

As I’m already using another lifting device, I didn’t really notice additional lift with the PMD Wave PRO but if you’re not doing this, I feel sure you’d see noticeable benefits. What I did experience was a lovely tightening sensation though.

Tip: when massaging or applying any products to your face, always move your fingers or skincare device upwards and outwards, never downward or inwards, to help promote lymphatic drainage, reduce puffiness, and roll any wrinkles away.

Other Benefits of the PMD Wave PRO

Does the PMD Wave Pro help with wrinkles?

As EMS helps target muscles and stimulate collagen production, yes, potentially the device can help with laughter lines and crow’s feet. Although please note neither PMD nor I are claiming this as a fact.

pmd-wave-pro-review-holiding-01

Blue light therapy

The PMD Wave PRO looks like it uses blue light therapy but I suspect not enough to make any real difference. Why is this important? Because blue light has anti-inflammatory properties, kills off acne-causing bacteria, and can reduce redness and inflammation in the skin, when used frequently. Very helpful for those of us with congested skin, and if you’re plagued with more severe acne, you could try the new PMD Clean Acne*, specifically designed to use blue light therapy and target this condition.

Is the PMD Wave PRO worth it?

If I didn’t already use and love my PMD Clean PRO, I’d probably have purchased the PMD Wave PRO because of its three-in-one application. That said, having tested the device over the last 4 weeks, I’ve fallen in love with the Extract function. It’s a much gentler, more hygienic, and more effective way of unclogging my pores than squeezing out the odd blemish with my fingernails (come on, don’t we all do this?!). And I’ve become quite addicted to the buzzing EMS as well.

If you’re not using any other kind of smart skincare device, then I’d say the PMD Wave PRO is definitely worth trying out, whether you use it to treat a current skin condition or as a preventative measure. At the time of writing, the price tag for the PMD Wave PRO is around £113.00*, the equivalent of a pair of shoes you wear a few times a month. Bearing in mind you wear your skin every day, if you’re after some serious pore-fection, I think this is a very worthwhile investment, don’t you?

Have you tried anything from the PMD range before? Do you use any facial cleaning devices in your skincare routine? Would you like to try the PMD Wave PRO too?

I’ll be honest and say that this is something I am very unlikely to start using, but I am constantly amazed at how skin care and facial treatments have evolved and become even more advanced (yet simple to use at home). This sounds like it could be fun to try out!

I’ve never heard of PMD before, but I am really trying to get more into skincare as I get older. I do find it a bit of a minefield, but that is simply due to how much the treatments and products have evolved over the years. This little tool looks like it does a lot for the price and is definitely something that I would be interested in trying out.

PMD have some fantastic skincare products, which I think stack up VERY reasonably against other more well-known brands (Foreo, Clarisonic). I hope you find something to try, I’m sure you won’t regret it. 🙂
