PMD Clean Smart Facial Cleansing Device review

PMD Clean: Smart Facial Cleansing Device – review *

5th June 2019      Lisa      24 Comments

AD – GIFTED | “Beauty is only skin deep.”  How often have you heard that phrase?  While I understand the sentiment, I’d also like to posit that our skin is a blank canvas.  And if your base isn’t clean to start with, nothing you pile on top is going to camouflage that.  So it makes sense to go back to the basics, don’t you think?  Of course, there are lots of recommended ways to cleanse your skin, but I was very lucky to be offered the PMD Clean: Smart Facial Cleansing Device * to try out recently.  So, is the future of clean skin looking smart?  Here’s how I got on.

PMD Clean: Smart Facial Cleansing Device

I’m familiar with smartphones and smartwatches but I’d not heard of a smart facial cleansing device before!  Anyway, like most facial cleansing brushes, the PMD Clean* works by deep level cleansing to leave your skin dirt and makeup free.  And it also helps with anti-aging by simultaneously encouraging collagen production, for a more youthful complexion.

How does it do this?  It harnesses SonicGlowTM technology, which uses over 7,000 vibrations per minute to break down the dirt and oil from deep within the pores.  This helps to reduce the formation of spots and blackheads, and leaves skin looking clearer.

PMD Clean Smart Facial Cleansing Device review

The PMD Clean is one of a range of beauty devices including the brand’s best-selling device, the PMD Personal Microderm*.  This device has won several beauty awards and has a loyal fan base amongst beauty bloggers and beauty editors worldwide.  The brand has since expanded its product range with the PMD Personal Microderm PRO*, the PMD Kiss*, and the PMD Clean*.  It comes in four colours: Blush Pink (my choice, because y’know, for Instagram 😉), Navy, Teal, Berry, or Black.

How to use the PMD Clean Smart Facial Cleansing Device

There are four different settings for the PMD Clean, so you can choose which intensity feels right for your skin.  Whichever one you choose, the ergonomic design ensures a comfortable and steady grip.

Cleansing

Settings one and two offer constant vibration and are recommended for optimum cleansing results.  The brush bristles are extremely gentle and suitable for all skin types.

You rinse your face with warm water and then apply your chosen cleanser.  Wet the PMD Clean and move the brush head in circular motions around your face for as long as you wish.  When done, simply rinse both your face and the facial cleansing device, pat your face dry, and leave the PMD Clean to air dry.  I tried the device with several different cleansers (including my beloved Origins foaming cleanser and a non-foaming Aloe Vera gel wash) and they all worked equally well.  Side note: I did remove my eye-make up first in the evenings.

Massaging

Settings three and four are the ones to use with the ridged side of the brush head after cleansing to massage serums and moisturisers into the skin.  The pulsing action lifts, firms and tones the skin by stimulating blood flow and collagen production.  And also helps your product(s) penetrate more deeply for greater effectiveness.  I tried using both facial oils and night creams and again, the device performed beautifully.

PMD Clean Smart Facial Cleansing Device review

For me, one of the best things about this beauty device is the hygienic silicone coating, which is anti-bacterial, hypoallergenic, waterproof and incredibly easy to clean.  Literally, you just rinse and leave to dry, what could be simpler?  Prior to this I was using an ALDI facial brush.  While there’s no denying the bargain price (I mean, come on, it’s ALDI), I was never sure if the bristles were really clean.  Which is rather important for skincare really…  Oh, and the PMD Clean is battery operated too, so ideal for taking away on holiday to Cornwall recently.

Thoughts on the PMD Clean

Some beauty experts recommend using facial cleansing devices no more than three times a week, but the PMD Clean is gentle enough to use twice a day.  And my facial skin is truly the clearest it’s ever been in its life.  It feels firmer, looks healthier, and my pores have never been so clean, even on my nose.  Because of this, they look smaller and, after the first ten days, I’ve had far fewer breakouts too.

PMD Clean Smart Facial Cleansing Device review

I say the first ten days because I did experience quite a few eruptions during this time, but this is simply the result of deep cleansing and massage.  Much like when you go for a professional facial and your therapist pulls all the grollies to the surface.  Once this stage is over though you can revel in your new glowing skin.  And enjoy using less foundation and concealer too – at least in my case.

Another unexpected benefit is that the vibration and massage actions work wonders on blocked sinuses.  Much as I love having our cats sleep on our bed, they do make me feel a little congested in the mornings.  Not any more, thanks to my smart facial cleansing device!

Would I recommend it?

The PMD Clean Smart Facial Cleansing Device comes with an AA battery, a one year warranty – see the latest pricing for the PMD Clean on Amazon*.  Which I think compares extremely favourably to other devices such as Magnitone, Sensiq, Clarisonic, Foreo Luna, Clinique and their higher price brackets.  It cleanses, tones, massages, is lightweight, easy to use, comfortable to hold, hygienically clean, and travel-friendly.  Plus it looks very elegant on my bathroom shelf and stylish in my photos 😉  So yes, I would very happily recommend it.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to PMD Clean for sending me my lovely Smart Facial Cleansing Device, it’s been a game changer for my skin.  It’s really not something I can imagine being without now.  And I’d also have to conclude that even if sometimes beauty really is just skin deep, this type of smart skincare is definitely the future.

Amazing review Lisa! I’ve always wanted to try one of these but they’re usually too expensive! I need a good deep cleanse, my skin is pretty awful at the moment! x

Thank you – and yes, price is the factor that stopped me previously too. But I have to say this PMD device is fabulous, nowhere near as expensive as others, and I’m loving the difference it’s made to my skin! x

This sounds like a wonderful product, Lisa! I’ve never heard of a facial cleanser before, but from reading your review it sounds like a very gentle and effective way to keep skin looking clear and healthy. I’m loving the blush pink, so cute, girly and very photogenic! That is such a bonus that it works well with blocked sinuses too, I have the same issue with my cats, so it is amazing that it solves the problem 🙂 It sounds like this would be a great addition to any skincare routine and such a worthwhile investment too. I’m glad you have had such positive results already, thanks for sharing your thoughts, fab post and pretty photos! <3 xxx

It’s such a game changer, Bexa, honestly, I had no idea that something so gentle could make such a difference to my skin. And it’s a bonus that it works for cleansing and massaging too, it’s like having a professional facial at home. I’m not sure the decongestant aspect is something PMD would necessarily want to market but it’s definitely an added bonus for me, haha. Thank you for your lovely comment! xxx

Wow! this sounds great Lisa. I have always wanted to try these kind of cleansing brushes but are so pricey. First time I heard of a smart cleansing device, sounds so fancy and innovative. The blush pink color is so pretty . And I love your new photo, you are looking so beautiful Lisa. 🙂

This sounds really interesting. I would personally never use a cleansing brush, even if they’re gentle, because of my sensitivity issues that’s just not something I can get on board with. My face is always bright red just from fingers and a wash cloth 😂. But I’m very intrigued by the massaging element. I love manually managing serum and moisturisers into my skin so I’d be very interested in trying a tool that did it for me! Great review x

Oh, that’s such a shame, that must make cleansing routines rather tricky! And yes, I was intrigued by the massaging element too, but it’s lovely, my face feels so glowy afterwards (no pun intended) 🙂 x

A truly wonderful review. I love smart facial brushes. They’ve really become all the rave now. I’ve heard they work fabulously and if your post is any indication it seems like the buzz has been true about them. I love a multipurpose product. So that bit about clearing your sinuses seems like a huge bonus for the allergy-ridden like myself.

I’ve always wanted to try one of these cleansing devices, but their just so expensive and I know they’ll probably be worth it but I’m not going to lie, I don’t even have a face routine, so I’m worried I wouldn’t even remember to use it haha

🌈 Our beloved hobo has taken his last journey. Yes 🌈 Our beloved hobo has taken his last journey. Yesterday evening we had to say farewell to Ginger at nearly 21 years old.

13 years ago he wandered into our greenhouse and decided ours was his new home. So many memories:

😻 He saw us through Buzz, Lily, and Jester, and the arrivals of Spooky, Loki, and Lyra.
😻 Always the most chilled cat, not interested in fighting any other cats, ours or visitors.
😻 Greediest cat ever, not even willing to share with the resident hedgehogs. He could hear the sound of someone walking into the kitchen from 5 miles away.
😻 An inveterate bin diver – our neighbours got used to seeing their recycling spread across the road after he’d gone searching for food.
😻 Always commandeering the warmest spot in the garden or house.
😻 Putting up with Spooky always seeking him out and snuggling up with him.
😻Somehow generating more heat than a volcano, so we could never tolerate him on our laps for more than 10 minutes, we’d have to move him next to us instead.
😻 Always knowing when any of us needed comfort or company and snuggling up to offer purring support.

RIP, Ginger, thank you for choosing us, we were privileged to have you as part of our family, and you leave the biggest hole in all our hearts. 😿
