30 best Summer quotes ever – for sunshine vibes all year round
Seasonal quotes posts aren’t new for me – you may have already read my 30 inspirational Autumn quotes, and 30 inspiring Winter quotes. But finding 30 inspirational Summer quotes was a research task made in heaven. In fact, I’m writing this post outdoors in my garden on a summer afternoon in June, with the temperature nudging 28 degrees. The washing is out on the line, my flowers are wafting their scents, the bees are droning soporifically, and I’m truly in my happy place. Although I wouldn’t say no to some welcome summer rain later, to save me having to water the garden by hand! Anyway, on with my first selection of summer sayings for sunshine vibes.

Literary and lyrical quotes about Summer
A collection of summer sayings wouldn’t be complete without a few literary and lyrical good summer quotes, would it? And here are the 7 best ones I’ve found by some of my favourite authors and a song writer. No surprises that my all-time favourite author, poet, and dramatist, William Shakespeare, features twice!
“Summer afternoon — summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.” – Henry James
“This bud of love, by summer’s ripening breath, May prove a beauteous flower when next we meet.” – William Shakespeare, Romeo & Juliet, Act 2, Scene 2

Summer was our best season: it was sleeping on the back screened porch in cots, or trying to sleep in the tree house; summer was everything good to eat; it was a thousand colors in a parched landscape; but most of all, summer was Dill.” – Harper Lee, To Kill A Mockingbird
“Summer’s lease hath all too short a date.” – William Shakespeare, Sonnet 18
Well, I couldn’t leave out these funny Summer quotes from my collection of best Summer quotes, could I? Sam Keen is my Muse, and James Dent is most definitely my husband’s 🙂
“Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability.” – Sam Keen
“A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawnmower is broken.” – James Dent
Summer is a time of comfort as these 6 happy Summer quotes show. Cloud watching is something that Flora loves to do and it takes me right back to my childhood too. And even better, when we lie on a picnic blanket in our summer garden, we have the splish-splash of the water in our wildlife pond to soothe us as well. I love all the other quotes because they remind me that anything seems possible in summertime, and it’s always when most of my favourite memories are created.
“Summer is the annual permission slip to be lazy. To do nothing and have it count for something. To lie in the grass and count the stars. To sit on a branch and study the clouds.” – Regina Brett
“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.” – John Lubbock
“When the sun is shining I can do anything; no mountain is too high, no trouble too difficult to overcome.” – Wilma Rudolph
“Summer means happy times and good sunshine. It means going to the beach, going to Disneyland, having fun.” – Brian Wilson
“Summer, after all, is a time when wonderful things can happen to quiet people. For those few months, you’re not required to be who everyone thinks you are, and that cut-grass smell in the air and the chance to dive into the deep end of a pool give you a courage you don’t have the rest of the year. You can be grateful and easy, with no eyes on you, and no past. Summer just opens the door and lets you out.” – Deb Caletti
“I love summertime more than anything else in the world. That is the only thing that gets me through the winter, knowing that summer is going to be there.” – Jack McBrayer
Summer quotes for kids
I was so lucky to grow up in the country surrounded by Nature, which is something Flora’s experienced from birth too. So these 2 summer quotes for kids are very apposite for us. Only this morning we were standing in our local stream, catching crayfish, just like something from Enid Blyton’s Famous Five. Most definitely a summer past-time, we’d get hypothermia in doing that in Winter…
“In the summer I was a wild child in the woods, with no shoes, and in the fall it was back to the city, shoe shops and school.” – Margaret Atwood
“In the summer, the days were long, stretching into each other. Out of school, everything was on pause and yet happening at the same time, this collection of weeks when anything was possible.” – Sarah Dessen
A Summer quote for June
As I’m writing this post in our garden in June, it seems only right that I should include a few Summer captions for this most beautiful of months. And yes, I know I say that about our garden every month, but Maud absolutely nails it, don’t you think?
“It was June, and the world smelled of roses. The sunshine was like powdered gold over the grassy hillside.” – Maud Hart Lovelace
“Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August.” – Jenny Han
“Spring being a tough act to follow, God created June.” – Al Bernstein
My favourite Summer quote
I’ve often thought that I was born in the wrong country. Give me sunshine and I’m smiling. I love Summer, even if my hay fever kicks in and I have to take 3 showers a day when it’s really hot. Blue skies and sunshine, flip flops and suncream, ice creams and a glass of something chilled are all what do it for me. And this is the time of year when I’m in my element.
“I was made for sunny days.” – Unknown
And that last quote wraps up my 30 best Summer quotes. Sunny days are when all the hard work of Winter and Spring begins to reveal itself in our garden. We can get outside and really revel in everything Nature has to offer us. And summer is also special because as a freelancer, I can take time out and have more holidays a time to suit me and my family. So we can create even more precious summertime memories to stay with us throughout the wetter and colder months, and to give us those warming summer vibes all year round 🙂
