Beauty Heroes: Origins – My Night-time Routine

Beauty Heroes: Origins – My Night-time Routine

After cancelling my Birchbox subscription at the end of December 2017, this year I thought I would start writing about my own Beauty Heroes and sharing why I love them. And I’m starting with Origins, my all-time favourite skincare brand.

Why Origins?

I’ve been in love with Origins for what feels like forever. In fact, it was my husband who first bought me something from the range just over 20 years ago. Sadly, neither he nor I can remember what it was, but I’m sure it was gorgeous as my love affair has been a long and (mostly) faithful one.

For those who don’t know, Origins is owned by Estee Lauder, and the brand’s ethos has always been to offer skincare products powered by nature and proven by science. They can also claim to be vegan, paraben free, and cruelty-free too.

When I trained as a Beauty Specialist many years ago – I love sharing that little-known fact about me πŸ™‚ – I was always taught that your skin works hardest at night-time to repair itself. So I’ve always tried to prepare my skin as best I can before bed. Today I’m sharing my top three Origins products that make up my night-time routine during the winter months.

Checks and Balances

I know I’m supposed to remove my make up meticulously before I wash my face but, despite my Beauty Specialist training, I really cannot be bothered. Because this gorgeously creamy, frothy facewash does it all for me.

I don’t know how Origins have done it but Checks and Balances is a multi-use product for all skin types. It works on both oily and dry patches without stripping or irritating my skin. All you do is squeeze a little into your hand and mix with some water. I’ve found it even removes eye makeup although I’m careful to keep my eyes closed until I’ve finished rinsing. Apparently the Broad Leaf Kelp Extract, Wheat Protein, and Tourmaline discourage excess oil production while protecting dry areas. The combination of Bergamot, Spearmint, and Lavender makes it smell amazing too. And my skin always feels clean and soft, not dry and tight afterwards. Small wonder it’s one of their bestsellers.

Never A Dull Moment

Now my face is clean it’s time to use a gentle exfoliator/skin polisher and this one smells good enough to eat (note: I have tasted it and while I wouldn’t spread it on toast, it’s not bad!)

Never A Dull Moment is another suitable for all skin types product. It contains finely ground Apricot and Mango seeds to polish your skin, and Papaya extract to dissolve any dead or dull skin cells. I use this in two ways: either as a gentle face scrub, massaged over my damp face, or simply applied and left for five minutes to allow the dissolving extract to do its stuff. Either way, I’m left with a lovely glowing face (healthy, not red). Tip: I use NADM as a hand exfoliator and cuticle softener too.

Drink Up Intensive

Lastly, it’s time for some moisturisation before bed, and although this is actually an ultra-rich, hydrating overnight mask, I find it works well for me as a night-time moisturiser during winter.

Drink Up contains Avocado and Apricot kernel oils for intensive hydration, and Japanese seaweed that apparently helps repair the skin’s barrier and tackle signs of premature ageing. Be that as it may, the cream smells YUMMY and my skin looks fresh and soft when I wake up, rather than grey and dull. If I used Drink Up as a mask for dry or normal skin, I’d apply a thicker layer and tissue the excess off but I prefer to use a thinner layer on my combination skin every night instead. Tip: I’ve found Drink Up works wonders on my sun-parched skin while on holiday too.

So there we are, my three night-time Origins Beauty Heroes, which have been the absolute saviours of my skin. Have you used any Origins products before? If not, are you tempted to try them now?

Origins products are a new found love for me! I recently picked up their ginger burst body wash and the matching hand cream and I am IN LOVE with them! The scents are just delightful and not overpowering in the slightest! I am actually in the market for a new exfoliator at the moment as my existing one has just been used up, so I am very tempted by the Never a Dull Moment variety that you have here, I like the fact that you can use it in multiple ways! Thank you for sharing your skin heroes with us!… Read more Β»

I’ve heard so many amazing things about Origins products but unfortunately I’ve never tried any of them. I’m trying to set a skincare routine and I’d definitely like to include some of their products in it. x

Confession time: I’ve never used a single Origin’s product! Which is quite surprising considering skin is my thing. I’ve heard such amazing things about the drink up line x

Ooh I’ve always wanted to try more things from Origin – I only ever gave their little spot zapping solution a go (I really can’t remember what it’s called!). The Drink Up sounds perfect for my skin…might look into it a little more. Thanks πŸ™‚

Origins has slowly become my favorite brand too as you already know. But I need to try the cleanser and skin polish. I love the drink up mask and the rose clay mask is my favorite. I did not know that it is owned by Estee Lauder. I learned something new here. Thanks for sharing. Great post as usual. πŸ™‚

I have always wanted to try Origins skincare, but for some reason I’ve never got round to it! I am definitely keen now I’ve seen this! The Checks and Balances sounds amazing, and I’ve heard loads of good things about the Drink Up range. Also I had no idea about skin repairing at night – thanks for the handy hint!
