AD | If I had to choose three lots of jewellery to save in a fire, I’d choose my watch, my wedding and engagement rings, and my classic gold hoop earrings. The watch because it belonged to my mother. My rings because they’re a symbol of my marriage. And my gold hoops because they’re my fail-safe, go-to, work-with-any-outfit jewellery. I wear gold hoop earrings pretty much every day. In fact, if you peer closely at the profile pic on my blog and on all my social channels, you’ll see I’m wearing some simple hoop earrings.

Why are gold hoop earrings such a classic accessory?
That depends on what you term a classic. But for me, a classic accessory is something that has never gone out of style. Indeed, an article in The New York Times reveals that hoop earrings were first introduced by the Nubians in what is now present-day Sudan, Africa. Both Egyptian men and women wore them, including queens and pharaohs such as Nefertiti, Hatshepsut, Tutankhamen, and Cleopatra. And nowadays, all kinds of online and high street retailers offer them too, from small independent outlets right up to high end luxury brands.
Gold hoops suit everyone and every occasion
Whether your vibe is Dolly Parton sized large gold hoop earrings brushing your shoulders, or more discreet little circles to cradle your earlobes, there’s a gold hoop style for you. And they really do go with everything. Formal or office wear, casual wear, party wear, special occasions such as weddings, As well as different shapes and sizes, they come in different designs and some even contain gemstones for a little extra bling. And jewellery is a great way to express your personal style and taste. But what if you bought a piece of jewellery and it doesn’t fit? Or it breaks and needs to be fixed? This article at SenseOrient has some helpful tips about jewellery resizing, and how to ensure it fits properly.
My top seven best gold hoop earrings
Luxury gold hoops
Solid gold hoop earrings are at the top of my wish list, and I think these 14k gold hoop earrings are simply beautiful. A true investment.
Gold hoops with a little sparkle
For days when I want a little extra embellishment, I love the look of these gold plated cubic zirconia hoop earrings from The White Company.
Or if I’m in the mood for a little twist on the familiar, I’d be very happy with either of these designs from Oliver Bonas.
And don’t forget about independent retailers either. When I want to shop small, Etsy is my first port of call*. Aren’t these stargazer 14k gold plated small hoop earrings* the cutest?
Budget gold hoop earrings
Gold hoops can be budget options too – good old Amazon has literally thousands of styles* to choose from. So I think these 50mm gold hoop earrings are perfect for every day wear.
Gold hoops for non-pierced ears
Because not everyone has pierced ears, some clip on vintage style hoop earrings from eBay would make the perfect gift, don’t you think?
So are classic hoop earrings worth investing in?
Any of the earring designs I’ve picked out would go with just about anything you wanted to wear. Imagine a classic white t-shirt and jeans combo. Or a sharply tailored suit for the office (and Zoom meetings these days). And they’d be perfect for a boho wedding as well. To be honest, I can’t think of a single occasion when gold hoop earrings wouldn’t top off your outfits with style. You know the saying, “There’s an app for that”? Well, whatever the event, I believe there’s a gold hoop style for it. So, circling back to my original question of whether classic gold hoop earrings are worth investing in? As Oscar de la Renta opined, “A woman makes an outfit her own with accessories.” So I’m off to channel my inner Dolly. Because yes, I 100% believe they are – have I convinced you too?
Are you a fan of gold hoop earrings? What’s your favourite shape, size and style to wear? Do you like any of the pieces on my wish list? How would you style a pair of gold hoops?

I can’t wear gold but I do love a hoop earring. I remember getting my ears pierced at 7 and I couldn’t wait to swap my studs out for hoops!
I have kept my late Mum’s gold hoops though, I don’t remember seeing her not wearing them. I was so torn though because it didn’t seem right that she wasn’t wearing them when I went to see her.
I really want to buy some hoop earrings now, maybe I should treat myself for Christmas x x
Lisa says
I swapped my studs for hoops as soon as I could too! Stylish from the get go, we are 🙂 That’s a lovely memory to treasure of your mum, Claire. And I know this post is about gold hoops but there are lots of silver ones too so I hope you do treat yourself xx

Wendy says
I’m of an age where my ears were pierced with a needle, and I wore gold hoops from the start. I love the small ones, and I wear larger ones for dress-up. When I got pierced again a few years back, I sort out the needle and hoops again. I always am wearing one or two, usually a smaller one in the top and a bit bigger in the bottom.
I love the look of yours Lisa, where they just show through your hair, but as I am into small ones, I keep my hair back from my ears so people can see. Thanks for you post.
Lisa says
Lots of my friends went the needle route but I was too much of a coward, haha. So pleased you’re a fellow gold hoops lover too, Wendy, thank you for your comment.
