After cancelling my Birchbox subscription recently, I thought I would start writing about my Origins Beauty Heroes and sharing why I love them. And I’m starting with Origins, my all-time favourite skincare brand.
Why Origins?
I’ve been in love with Origins for what feels like forever. In fact, it was my husband who first bought me something from the range just over 20 years ago. Sadly, neither he nor I can remember what it was, but I’m sure it was gorgeous as my love affair has been a long and (mostly) faithful one.
For those who don’t know, Origins is owned by Estee Lauder, and the brand’s ethos has always been to offer skincare products powered by nature and proven by science. They can also claim to be vegan, paraben free, and cruelty-free too.
When I trained as a Beauty Specialist many years ago – I love sharing that little-known fact about me 🙂 – I was always taught that your skin works hardest at night-time to repair itself. So I’ve always tried to prepare my skin as best I can before bed. Today I’m sharing my top three Origins beauty heroes that make up my night-time routine during the winter months.
Origins Checks and Balances
I know I’m supposed to remove my make up meticulously before I wash my face but, despite my Beauty Specialist training, I really cannot be bothered. Because this gorgeously creamy, frothy facewash does it all for me.
I don’t know how Origins have done it but Checks and Balances* is a multi-use product for all skin types. It works on both oily and dry patches without stripping or irritating my skin. All you do is squeeze a little into your hand and mix with some water. I’ve found it even removes eye makeup although I’m careful to keep my eyes closed until I’ve finished rinsing. Apparently the Broad Leaf Kelp Extract, Wheat Protein, and Tourmaline discourage excess oil production while protecting dry areas. The combination of Bergamot, Spearmint, and Lavender makes it smell amazing too. And my skin always feels clean and soft, not dry and tight afterwards. Small wonder it’s one of their bestsellers.
Origins Never A Dull Moment
Now my face is clean it’s time to use a gentle exfoliator/skin polisher and this one smells good enough to eat (note: I have tasted it and while I wouldn’t spread it on toast, it’s not bad!)
Never A Dull Moment* is another suitable for all skin types product. It contains finely ground Apricot and Mango seeds to polish your skin, and Papaya extract to dissolve any dead or dull skin cells. I use this in two ways: either as a gentle face scrub, massaged over my damp face, or simply applied and left for five minutes to allow the dissolving extract to do its stuff. Either way, I’m left with a lovely glowing face (healthy, not red). Tip: I use NADM as a hand exfoliator and cuticle softener too.
Origins Drink Up Intensive
Lastly, it’s time for some moisturisation before bed, and although this is actually an ultra-rich, hydrating overnight mask I find it works well for me as a night-time moisturiser during winter.
Drink Up Intensive* contains Avocado and Apricot kernel oils for intensive hydration, and Japanese seaweed that apparently helps repair the skin’s barrier and tackle signs of premature ageing. Be that as it may, the cream smells YUMMY and my skin looks fresh and soft when I wake up, rather than grey and dull. If I used Drink Up as a mask for dry or normal skin, I’d apply a thicker layer and tissue the excess off but I prefer to use a thinner layer on my combination skin every night instead. Tip: I’ve found Drink Up works wonders on my sun-parched skin while on holiday too.
So there we are, my three night-time Origins Beauty Heroes, which have been the absolute saviours of my skin. Have you used any Origins products before? If not, are you tempted to try them now?

They are FABULOUS products, and thank you! 🙂
Haven’t heard of this brand before but it sounds delightful! Thanks for sharing!
Jessica & James
You’re welcome – I never need an excuse to share my love of Origins, hehe
I’ve used Origins products on and off for years now, my favourite is the Drink Up Intensive mask :)!
Great post pet!
L xo
Oh, thank you! Honestly, I don’t know what I’d do if Origins discontinued some of my favourites, they did it with a perfume called Spring Fever and I was distraught. So glad to find a fellow Origins-lover ? x
Origins products are a new found love for me! I recently picked up their ginger burst body wash and the matching hand cream and I am IN LOVE with them! The scents are just delightful and not overpowering in the slightest! I am actually in the market for a new exfoliator at the moment as my existing one has just been used up, so I am very tempted by the Never a Dull Moment variety that you have here, I like the fact that you can use it in multiple ways! Thank you for sharing your skin heroes with us!
Abbey x
Oh, Abbey, I’m so glad you said that, Ginger is my signature perfume and I absolutely love it. Although to be fair there’s not much that Origins do that I don’t like, but my bathroom shelves aren’t that big, haha. I’d definitely recommend NADM – maybe your local department store could give you a sample to try first? X
A great review Lisa!
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it! X
I’ve been looking for new products to use because my skincare routine has been the same for like 5 months now! I’ve heard great things about Origins, so I’ll look into it! Great post!

I honestly don’t think you’d regret trying Origins, they’re the only brand that have never given me any problems. And that’s saying something when I’ve been using them for over 20 years! Good luck if you do decide to try them ? xx
I’ve heard so many amazing things about Origins products but unfortunately I’ve never tried any of them. I’m trying to set a skincare routine and I’d definitely like to include some of their products in it. x
Antonia
Maybe your local department store could let you have a few samples to test? I know Origins aren’t the cheapest but they are soooo good, I don’t think you’ll look back if you try them! X
Confession time: I’ve never used a single Origin’s product! Which is quite surprising considering skin is my thing. I’ve heard such amazing things about the drink up line x

Sophie, I’m shocked, haha. But if you’re tempted to try Origins then Drink Up is definitely a brilliant one to go for first. It’s such a multi-use product and a little goes a very long way. Plus it smells AMAZING ? X
Oh my goodness I love this post! I didn’t know that they were owned by Estee Lauder! I’ve been wanting to try some of their products for ages so thanks for such a good overview of some of the them!- https://sophhearts.com x
Oh, thank you so much, that’s really kind 🙂 Any of these would be a fab product to try for the first time but I think Drink Up has the edge, it’s such a versatile product. Do let me know if you get any, I’d love to hear what you think! X
Love your photos Lisa! I’ve not tried Origins but always pass the counter in John Lewis. These products sound lovely and really nice scents too xx.
Rebecca
Aw, thank you, Rebecca, that’s so kind. I think the scents of Origins’ products are probably what drew my husband’s interest all those years ago, they are absolutely delicious ? x
Ooh I’ve always wanted to try more things from Origin – I only ever gave their little spot zapping solution a go (I really can’t remember what it’s called!). The Drink Up sounds perfect for my skin…might look into it a little more. Thanks 🙂
I love that Super Spot Remover too, it’s fab. And Drink Up would definitely be a great one to try first, it’s got so many applications and it smells GORGEOUS! X
That’s pretty cool you trained as a Beauty Specialist Lisa! Now I know why you are so clued up on beauty products 🙂 I really like the sound of Drink Up, avocado, apricot & Japanese seaweed sounds amazing for the skin! Gorgeous photos too, another fantastic post as always <3
Haha, I trained a very long time ago though. Drink Up is probably my all-time favourite moisturising treatment, the one I’d recommend to anyone trying Origins for the first time. And thank you so much for the photos compliment, really kind! X
Great post! Your photos are fab! I hadn’t heard of Origins before but I’ll certainly keep an eye out for their products next time I’m shopping. I love the fact that they are cruelty free! Best wishes.
Oh, thank you very much ? yes, it’s great to find a range of products that are so good and also tick all the cruelty free boxes. They are a great brand. X
That Drink Up Intensive sounds amaaazing omg!
It really is, it’s the product I always recommend to everyone, whether they’ve tried Origins or not! X
Checks and Balances looks like a perfect product because I can’t be bothered to do multiple steps either!! Thanks for the awesome review, PS I love your header for Lisas Notebook, its so pretty!
Hehe, I’m all for saving time at night! I’m so glad you liked the review and thank you so much for the kind words about my blog header. Another blogger made it for me but sadly she’s not doing them any more ? x
Origins has slowly become my favorite brand too as you already know. But I need to try the cleanser and skin polish. I love the drink up mask and the rose clay mask is my favorite. I did not know that it is owned by Estee Lauder. I learned something new here. Thanks for sharing. Great post as usual. 🙂
I think these three products are the ones I’d recommend to anyone who wanted to try Origins because they are suitable for all skin types but it just so happens they’re my favourites too. I get on better with By All Greens, Getting Warmer and Drink Up mask – so non-clay ones really. Thank you for the kind words, looking forward to exchanging future Origins experiences with you! X
I actually didn’t know Estee owned this :O *mind blown* This explains the quality I keep hearing about, I’ve been meaning to research them more cause I wanted to get a range from them. I only every tried something like a few years ago and forgot lol. I’m so glad you did this review…I need to get my hands on these! 🙂
xx Lena
I’m so glad this review is helpful 🙂 I think you’d love any of these products, they feel so good and really care for my skin. If I had to recommend just one I’d go for Drink Up, it’s a miracle mask ? do let me know what you think if you try it! Xx
I have always wanted to try Origins skincare, but for some reason I’ve never got round to it! I am definitely keen now I’ve seen this! The Checks and Balances sounds amazing, and I’ve heard loads of good things about the Drink Up range. Also I had no idea about skin repairing at night – thanks for the handy hint!
Beth x
I loved writing this post so much because I’ve been using Origins for years, I just had to share the love, haha! Your local department store would probably give you some samples so definitely try Checks and Balances and Drink Up, I’m sure you’ll love them too xx
Personally, I don’t really have a routine-I just scrub my face with water 😀 However, I like the sound of these products-they sound delightful!
Haha, water is better than nothing! I was hard pressed to choose just three Origins products – I love them all 🙂 xx
