GIFTED | In common with many beauticians and dermatologists, I’ve had a deep love for skincare and facial serums for many years. Ever since my ITEC Beauty Specialist training days in fact. They’ve been a part of my skincare regime for over 25 years now and when I saw SKN-RG* were looking for testers for their new SKN-RG Evolution Alpha facial serum * I volunteered immediately. So, how did I get on?
What is a Serum?
Serums are made of very small molecules, so the skin absorbs them more quickly and deeply than even the lightest moisturiser. And because they’re not designed to lock in moisture, they don’t include any barrier ingredients such as oils. So you’re just left with a high concentration fluid of active ingredients that penetrates your skin more efficiently.
Who are SKN-RG?
SKN-RG is the brainchild of ecologists, Deborah and Robert Scott. Taking inspiration from both Nature and Nikola Tesla (who designed the alternating-current (AC) electric system), they have created an exclusive new holistic skincare range. Pure botanicals, oils and clinically proven active ingredients combine with cutting edge Quanta® technology. This unique science uses sonic frequency waves and light energy pulses to increase the performance of product extracts. And so Skin + Energy = SKN-RG.
SKN-RG use Soil Association approved organic and natural ingredients and are also Vegan Society approved and Leaping Bunny Cruelty-Free certified. The company offers clean, vegan and organic skincare products to help rejuvenate your skin. SNK-RG products are also in use in outlets such as The Hale at Harley Street, The Berkeley Clinic, and independent London department stores.
SKN-RG Evolution Alpha serum
Brand new to SKN-RG, the 15ml facial serum comes in a simple pump action bottle with all the certification labels clearly printed down the side. A light, velvety white gel consistency aims to provide a lifting action, plus skin firming benefits. The blend of algaes and cellular rejuvenating plant extracts help increase the skin’s natural resilience and promote a youthful appearance.
The product has a lovely floral (lotus flowers) scent and as it’s a concentrated spa formula, a little goes a very long way. Microspheres from plankton can also shield you from both UV and harmful blue light emitted by mobile phones, computers, etc. Definitely something of interest to me as I’m (sadly) welded to my laptop and phone every day. If your skin has different needs you might also think whether you need an essence or serum. But any facial serum that offers to lift, plump, de-age, correct, reflect, soft-focus, minimise, energise and guard against pollution is one I’m keen to try!
How to use the SKN-RG Evolution Alpha serum
Once you’ve cleansed your face and before applying your moisturiser, squeeze one pump of serum on your fingertips and smooth it over your skin, avoiding the eye area. SKN-RG suggest trying it on both damp and dry skin to see which you prefer.
I’ve tried using it on both damp and dry skin and I’ve found it works best on damp skin, after I’ve used my facial cleansing brush in the morning. And I’ve also been using it after my exfoliating toner in the evening so it can help repair and rejuvenate my skin while I sleep 🙂
Does the SKN-RG Evolution Alpha serum work?
I’ve been using the SKN-RG Evolution Alpha serum for four weeks now. I have oily skin so I’m a fan of clay-based face masks as I don’t have too many lines and wrinkles (yet!). And I can see that my face definitely looks softer and smoother. The serum sinks in quickly and my moisturiser and make up seem to go on better too. I’ve bemoaned my gardener’s red cheeks many times before, but I do think they are less visible than usual.
Without undergoing some advance form of scanning there’s no way to tell if the facial serum has helped defend me against the electronic blue light emissions. But, with huge thanks to Deborah, I’m very happy with the way my face looks after a month of twice daily serum use. And I guess only time will tell as to whether or not it will benefit with the onset of wrinkles.
Final thoughts
Two years in design, SKN-RG Evolution Alpha serum has only just been launched. The pure, organic, vegan, cruelty-free, technologically unique, luxury skincare product will retail at £75.00. Depending on how often you use it, I imagine the 15ml bottle could last between four and six weeks. I still have some left in mine after four weeks twice daily use.
I’m not advocating swapping out your moisturiser for a serum, as they’re not designed to do the same jobs. Using their concentrated formulas before a moisturiser though will not only benefit anti-ageing but combat environmental toxins too. So, I do think you should consider incorporating a facial serum into your skincare routine if you’re not using one yet. You wear your face every day, so why not take the best care of it? With help from Nature and some advanced technology too if possible? I bet Nikola Tesla never imagined his design could be used in advanced skincare products, but I’m sure he’d be very proud.
Do you use a facial serum as part of your skincare routine? If not, do you think you might start doing so now?

There’s nothing I love more than a good serum. It’s where the majority of my skincare money goes! (Although I will admit to having a total love affair with Kate Somervilles Goat Milk cleanser, which is not cheap). This sounds like a really lovely serum with some really lovely ingredients – one to pass on to mum, I reckon.

Yes, serums aren’t inexpensive but I do think they’re worth every penny. It’s the one product I’d never skimp on. I haven’t heard of Kate Somerville, that sounds lovely too, I’ll have to go and check her out 🙂 x
This sounds great and definitely a bonus when it’s CF and Vegan! I don’t use serums- I have an odd relationship with skincare and can rarely find anything that works for me. But I love the sound of all the properties that this has!

Ah, that’s such a shame, serums are my absolute staple, my skin always responds so well to them. And this one is not like anything I’ve tried before, I loved it 🙂 x
My skin is so bad at the moment, I’d try anything. I mean my skincare routine is minimal so I guess, it’s on me. I never thought of using a serum but why not, considering the good impacts it had on your skin!
Oh, yes, serums are magical (when you find a good one) I’m sure you’d love it!
This sounds like such a good product even if it’s a bit expensive I would love to give it a try!
It’s a brilliant product, well worth trying! 🙂
Oh wow this sounds like an amazing product & I definitely need to be using serums more! I’ve only recently purchased one & have been loving it so far. Since I have dry skin I feel like it is a must! This one sounds great & the packaging is nice too xx
Serums are so good for skin, it’s the one beauty staple I’d never be without, they’re amazing! And if you have dry skin I’m sure they’d feel lovely too 🙂
Your posts are always so informative! I’ve used the No7 serum for years, but this sounds really good! I’ve got very dry skin, and feel like it’s way too wrinkly for my age! The fact this is vegan and cruelty-free is so appealing too, would you say it’s worth the price tag?
Hels xx
Oh, thank you, Hels, I always worry I write too much so that’s lovely to hear! Yes, I think given the technology behind this serum, I would say it’s a worthwhile investment, and would probably be better suited to drier skin than mine too. Do email or DM me if you like and we can chat further? X
This is fascinating. I always find myself drawn to understanding the actual science behind products like these rather than just taking someone’s word that it’s going to work the way they say lol
I was absolutely amazed by the technology, whoever would have thought it possible? 🙂
I’ve been trialling this product out too so it was really interesting to see what you thought- I’ve only been using it in the mornings but must try it out on damp skin- I’ve been meaning to but keep just automatically drying my face and all my skincare stuff is on a bedroom vanity. After seeing that you prefer it on damp skin I’m moving it to the sink tonight so that I don’t forget haha!

Oooh, I can’t wait to see what you think of it then! I was very impressed, the light/sound technology feels so futuristic, haha xx
I was sold the second you said it can protect from blue light. Being a bit of a skincare junkie, I think a lot about what living life glued to a screen is doing to my poor face (& eyes but that’s another story). It’s not something you see a lot on products either. I’m so glad I read this, it sounds like an amazing product! x

I’ve never seen another serum that protects against blue light either, this is a very special product. Very much recommended 🙂 x
I love using serums in my skincare routine. I have been using them for really long time and love it, because they are so light weight and feel like nothing on my oily skin. This sounds amazing. I learned the science behind the serums, as to how they work. Thanks a lot my dear. An amazing post like always. 🙂

Yes, I find the same, serums are so much better for my skin, they sink in straight away. I know what you mean about the science, I was amazed too! x
This really sounds like an amazing product. I don’t currently use a serum but I definitely would like to try one. Thanks for sharing!
It’s a great serum – and yes, in many ways serums deliver more benefits than a moisturiser 🙂
