Who are Simba?
There are plenty of mattress companies out there but Simba’s one of the names that crops up most frequently in reviews. A proud British company, their story revolves around supplying thread to a local mill, which then led them to create their first mattresses. As time went by, they combined cutting-edge, science-backed design, their Simbatex® foam, and titanium alloy Aerocoil® springs to create a range of mattresses all engineered with one thing in mind: the perfect night’s sleep.
Fast forward to today, and the certified B Corp™ company has won multiple awards for their range, ethos, and customer service. They’re so sure you’ll love your Simba mattress or mattress topper that they’ll give you up to 200 nights to test it in your own home. And, if you’re not happy, you can send it back, no questions asked. How amazing is that?
What is a Hybrid Mattress or Hybrid Mattress Topper?
A hybrid mattress or hybrid mattress topper is a multi-layered mattress / topper that combines springs and foam layers for the best of both comfort and support worlds. Yes, they’re typically more expensive than typical innerspring mattresses /toppers, but they’re also frequently less expensive than all-foam mattresses / toppers.
Why did we choose a Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper?
We bought a White Company Hypnos King sized mattress several years ago, and while it’s been OK for me, it’s become increasingly uncomfortable for my husband, who suffers more than I do from a bad back. But forking out for a new mattress to replace what was a very expensive one has been the subject of many heated debates. How do we know if a new one would be more comfortable? What type of mattress should we choose? What do we do with the old one? And so on. So, the chance to try a Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper risk-free* felt like the perfect solution.
What’s inside Simba’s Hybrid Mattress Topper?
The 7cm thick Simba Hybrid® Topper has some of their Hybrid Mattress layers – including their unique cooling Simbatex® foam comfort layer and up to 2,500 supportive Aerocoil® springs that cradle your body for complete support.
Simba’s mattress toppers come in two versions: the Hybrid Essential Mattress Topper* and a Premium Hybrid Mattress Topper*. Both toppers come in all sizes: single, small double, double, king, super king. We opted for the 7cm premium version for superior support and cushioning.
Our verdict on the Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper
The ordering process was super simple and our hybrid topper arrived within a couple of days. From the very first night, we noticed a real difference – including the increased height, which makes our bed feel like a luxury hotel bed!
We both have sore backs and the unique to Simba Aerocoil® springs are lighter and finer than traditional chunky bedsprings, so you don’t get that rigid spring feeling. And they’re made to a cone-shaped design which pivots and flexes to distribute your weight for pressure relief. Additionally, the pocketed micro springs compress inwards in response to your weight, so there’s less dip and roll. Handy if you or your partner are prone to restless nights, as you’re far less likely to disturb each other.
Unlike traditional memory foam mattresses, the Simbatex® foam is “open cell”, with a less dense structure, allowing more airflow. It’s also infused with graphite, a natural mineral that draws heat away from the body. And it’s free from CFCs and other environmentally damaging pollutants, even though it exceeds all fire safety regulations.
The Simbatex foam is a real plus for me because I overheat massively at night and am forever throwing off our duvet and thrashing around. And the Aerocoil® springs are a game changer for my husband, who hasn’t disturbed me in the night once since we’ve had our hybrid mattress topper installed. We’ve both been waking up feeling refreshed, rested, and without backache. What a result – who knew 7cm of springs and foam could make such a difference!
Simba Hybrid Mattress and Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper – FAQs
How often should I replace my mattress in the UK?
According to the Sleep Foundation, you should replace your mattress every six to eight years. However, Simba mattresses and mattress toppers are guaranteed for ten years. And you can throw the removable covers in your washing machine at 40 degrees too.
What are some alternatives to getting a new mattress?
With new mattresses costing several hundred pounds, opting for a Simba mattress topper that starts at around £199 seems like a more cost-effective option for a good night’s sleep. If you do decide to go for a new mattress though, Simba offer a mattress recycling service, even if you haven’t shopped with them before, irrespective of brand or size.
Can I put a mattress topper on my Simba mattress?
Yes, you can.
What to do when your Simba roll up mattress topper arrives
If you don’t already have one, I’d strongly recommend buying a mattress protector* so you can cover your mattress topper before you start using it. We have mattress protectors on all our beds, and they’ve been a lifesavers because, you know, accidents do happen.
Unboxing is simple and it’s great fun to watch the topper unroll so quickly. Tip: you’ll notice a slight smell because it’s new, but that only lasts a few days. It’s not unpleasant but, in the interests of this review, worth mentioning. Your new Simba mattress topper is safe and ready for use within three to six hours, although it might take up to 72 hours for it to expand completely – so it may seem fuller after a couple of days.
The Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper is 7cm deep so depending on the height of the mattress it’s placed on, you might need a deeper, more stretchy sheet. As you can see from this photograph, we’ll need to invest in a new sheet as our current one is very tight, but that’s not a deal breaker. Looking at Simba’s range of bed linen* (including pillows* and duvets*), I’m going to order one of their king-sized fitted sheets* that can fit a total depth of up to 40cm.
Is a Simba Topper worth it?
Speaking from personal experience, I’d say hand on heart yes, absolutely. It’s one of the best things we’ve tried in pursuit of a good night’s sleep. And I’m really cross with myself for not getting a hybrid mattress topper sooner. Here’s why:
- It’s effectively given our existing mattress a new lease of life – at least another 8-10 years.
- It’s significantly more comfortable to sleep on in terms of pressure and temperature.
- It’s far cheaper than buying a new mattress and having to dispose of the old one.
But you don’t have to take my word for it, check out these independent reviews and awards for the Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper. And you don’t have to pay all in one go either, you can pay in instalments. Or stalk their website until they have a sale. 🙂 Big thank you to Simba, who certainly live up to their claim that you can rest easy with them. Because it turns out you can put a price on a good night’s sleep, and it really isn’t that expensive after all.
Have you tried a mattress topper before? Or anything from Simba’s range of sleep enhancing products? Do you think you’d like to try a Simba hybrid mattress topper as an alternative to upgrading your entire mattress?

This looks like an excellent brand of mattress and bedding; I think they have a branch in Singapore that will check it out, and I am in need of a new one. Thanks for sharing.
We’ve been very happy so far, I only wish we’d got one sooner.
Simba sounds like a good mattress brand. Selecting a mattress is super important. It’s for our physical and mental have. Syukur alhamdulillah, my mattress is good.
You’re absolutely right, Fadima, for our physical, mental and, I’d add, emotional health.

Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Choosing a mattress is so hard. I jumped on the memory foam wagon but was disappointed with it. However the this Hybrid Mattress sounds like a better option 🤔. I’m very interested especially with the 10 year guarantee. Thanks for sharing
Interesting, I’m not a memory foam mattress fan either, I find them too firm. But we’re loving our hybrid topper, so yes, I’d definitely reccommennd giving it a go, especially as you can send it back if you don’t like it. 🙂
Wow I had not heard of a mattress topper. I bet it is super comfortable. And hybrid is even better. Sounds like an excellent company.
