AD | As a parent, I can say with some confidence that most parents try their hardest to ensure their kids remain happy and healthy. Unfortunately though, children don’t always want to cooperate! While children who receive a balanced diet might not need any extra vitamins, a supplement such as a daily Wellements multivitamin is an excellent addition to ensure they receive the essential nutrients they need to aid their physical and mental development.
Top Tricks To Getting Your Kids To Take Vitamins
Some little ones don’t like taking vitamins, so they simply refuse to take them. For parents, the struggle to give children their vitamins can seem overwhelming, often leading to them skipping doses, or even dropping the issue entirely. If that sounds familiar to you, here are some tried and tested tips to make the process of giving your child essential vitamins a little bit easier.
Explain The Benefits
Believe it or not, you can try to reason with your little one. While children are small and still developing intellectually, they’re often much smarter than most adults give them credit for. Sit down and talk to them about why multivitamins such as elderberry gummies for kids are kids are beneficial. Explain how vitamins can help them become healthier and stronger.
Obviously, you don’t need to delve into the specifics of bone development or immune system support. Just talk to your child at a level they can understand. If you’re not sure how to start the conversation, ask your child a question. For example, if they refuse to take their vitamin, ask them why they don’t want to take it. Some children might say they don’t like the taste, but taste is something you can get around quite easily.
Make It Fun
What child doesn’t look for way to have fun? If you can find a way to associate taking vitamins with a fun activity, your child might not resist taking them. For example, you can sing a song or make funny faces when giving them the supplement. Or, if your child loves a particular TV programme, use this as an incentive whereby they get to watch one episode of their favourite show if they take their vitamins. And of course you can always make smiley faces on their baby food or other meals’ food plates (what mum hasn’t tried this at least once?!)
Lead By Example
You can also take vitamins with your children – if they see you taking a daily supplement, they’ll more than likely want to copy you and join in. Make it part of your daily routines, much like brushing your teeth. You could use still a rewards system for you both, such as a fun sticker chart or token system.
Disguise The Taste
One of the best ways to hide a chalky taste or texture is by crushing the vitamin tablet into a fruit smoothie, yoghurt, or their favourite juice. Citrus juices, such as orange, are great at masking any unexpected flavours a child may not like. Peanut butter works well for Omega-3 supplements, whose fishy flavour can be harder to hide.
Use A Vitamin Powder
For really little ones, vitamin powder is an excellent way to hide essential nutrients in tasty dishes, tempting treats, and baby friendly meals. In fact, if your child absolutely refuses to take their daily vitamins, it’s the easiest way to disguise it in their favourite dishes when capsules, liquids, chewable tablets, and gummies all fail to hit the spot.
Why Are Vitamins and Supplements Important?
Multivitamins are often vital to ensuring your little one remains healthy and grows up strong. A balanced diet will probably provide all the essential nutrients they need, but a daily multivitamin offers reassurance against missing out on important nutrients, like iron, Vitamin D, and calcium. Before giving your child any dietary supplements, make sure you consult with their paediatrician as a doctor can check the products you choose are safe and effective for your child and their specific needs.
Do you give your child any additional supplements as part of a healthy, balanced diet? If they take additional vitamins, how do you get them to take theirs? What tips can you share for parents whose kids aren’t eating enough nutrients naturally, and need that little extra boost?
