Birchbox Man Limited Edition review

6th July 2017      Lisa      8 Comments

I’ve been a Birchbox subscriber for a few months now (read my June review here) and my husband has always been curious to see what I receive.  When I saw Birchbox Man’s Limited Edition Bag on offer, I thought it would be lovely to treat him for a change. Because, why should I get all the fun?  So, what did he get and what did he think?

Contents

  • 1. Birchbox Man’s Bag
  • 2. Granado Shaving Soap
  • 3. Big Moustache After Shave Care
  • 4. Polaar Men Hydroprotect Moisturiser UV
  • 5. Thermaliv Tonifying Shower Gel
  • 6. Davines NaturalTech™ Energizing Shampoo
  • 7. Levi’s® Night Mask
  • 8. Did he like his bag?

Birchbox Man’s Bag

Instead of a box, Birchbox delivered their treats in a rather stylish dark blue denim Levi’s® washbag.  As his existing washbag is manky and needs binning then this was a great start!

Granado Shaving Soap

An Origins fan like me, my husband normally uses their Blade Runner®.  But, as he’s just run out, the shaving soap’s arrival was well timed.  Granado Pharmacias is a Brazilian brand.  The soap is made with murumuru butter so it produces a lovely, creamy lather.  Plus it has a strong minty fragrance which certainly wakes him up in the mornings.  Overall, he likes the soap so, if I can track it down again locally, then this might be a repurchase for use at home.  Blade Runner is a far better one for travelling with though, and will always be his favourite.

Big Moustache After Shave Care

Origins Blade Runner does such a good job that my husband never needs to use an after shave product, so he took a little persuading to try this one.  It has jojoba and sweet almond oil to soothe any razor burn but, to be honest, there wasn’t any razor burn after using the Granado soap so it has an easy job.  He isn’t too bothered one way or another with this product so I doubt we’ll be repurchasing this one.

Polaar Men Hydroprotect Moisturiser UV

I had a Polaar Arctic scrub sample a few Birchbox boxes back which I really liked.  The concept of using Arctic algae in a moisturiser intrigued him and although he quite likes the light and non-greasy feel of it, he prefers the smell and texture of his trusty Origin’s Save the Males™.  Polaar is another one we won’t be buying again.

Thermaliv Tonifying Shower Gel

This soap free gel is apparently especially formulated for men (?) with toning ginseng and hydrating ProVitamin B5.  He likes the marine fragrance for a change but hasn’t noticed any increase in moisturised skin.  As he’s a very loyal user of the (considerably cheaper) soap free, zesty Body Shop Pink Grapefruit shower gel, I don’t think this Thermaliv one is going to be a game changer for him either.

Davines NaturalTech™ Energizing Shampoo

My husband’s current shampoo of choice is L’Occitane’s Repairing Shampoo for Dry and Damaged Hair, a silicone-free shampoo packed full of Provencal scents and Vitamin B5.  However, he likes this Davines one with its eucalyptus and peppermint fragrance too.  It also has added caffeine, which is supposed to help with hair loss – always a bonus!  So far, it hasn’t irritated his scalp either, so we’ll see how we go with this one – it might be a repurchase in due course.

Levi’s® Night Mask

This was a bonus inclusion, to match the washbag, but not something he’ll ever use.  So I’m nabbing it for the next time we have a night flight anywhere – silver linings …

Did he like his bag?

He was really pleased to get his Birchbox Man Limited Edition bag for Father’s Day.  But, overall, I don’t think any of the products are likely to lure him away from his tried and trusted favourites.  I think it’s a 2/5 overall score, with the soap and shampoo scoring highest.  That said, it was a great value package and a fun way to show him that pamper products aren’t just for me.  And if Birchbox offered a Men’s Bag again in future, would I buy another one for him?  Yes, I think I probably would.

Do you use Birchbox or any other beauty subscription service? What do you think of your monthly samples?  Have you treated the man in your life to the Limited Edition Man’s Bag? If so, what does he think?

It’s cool that the did a man’s bag! My best friend is a boy and he seems to struggle to get stuff like Birchbox because its always for females. Male subscription boxes should be more of a thing!

Yes, I think Birchbox are on to a winner here, I hope they repeat it. I agree, there should be more mens subscription boxes, it’s not just a girl’s thing!

Thank you! I hope Birchbox do a Man’s Box again, it’s so nice for him to try new things as mens’ samples are hard to come by x

I haven’t done Birchbox in ages, I had no idea they were doing men’s versions as well. It’s a shame the products weren’t up his street but they’re fun to try at least I suppose. 🙂

I don’t think Birchbox normally do mens’ boxes, this was a Limited Edition timed for Father’s Day. Fingers crossed if they got a positive response from their subscribers they might do it again …!

🌈 Our beloved hobo has taken his last journey. Yes 🌈 Our beloved hobo has taken his last journey. Yesterday evening we had to say farewell to Ginger at nearly 21 years old.

13 years ago he wandered into our greenhouse and decided ours was his new home. So many memories:

😻 He saw us through Buzz, Lily, and Jester, and the arrivals of Spooky, Loki, and Lyra.
😻 Always the most chilled cat, not interested in fighting any other cats, ours or visitors.
😻 Greediest cat ever, not even willing to share with the resident hedgehogs. He could hear the sound of someone walking into the kitchen from 5 miles away.
😻 An inveterate bin diver – our neighbours got used to seeing their recycling spread across the road after he’d gone searching for food.
😻 Always commandeering the warmest spot in the garden or house.
😻 Putting up with Spooky always seeking him out and snuggling up with him.
😻Somehow generating more heat than a volcano, so we could never tolerate him on our laps for more than 10 minutes, we’d have to move him next to us instead.
😻 Always knowing when any of us needed comfort or company and snuggling up to offer purring support.

RIP, Ginger, thank you for choosing us, we were privileged to have you as part of our family, and you leave the biggest hole in all our hearts. 😿
