August goals 2017

1st August 2017      Lisa      2 Comments

_
August goals.  Well, I only really have one main goal and that’s to enjoy the next five weeks with my family.  So this is going to be a fairly short post!  Looking back at last month’s goals, I’m pleased that I managed to join in a few blogger exchanges on Twitter, and chuffed to bits that I managed to lose some weight!  Anyway, on with August’s goals …

Contents

  • 1. Family time
  • 2. My blog
  • 3. Pen paling

Family time

I’m really, really lucky that, due to an unexpected set of circumstances, I don’t have to work very much this August.  That means I can spend time with my lovely daughter and husband.  Flora is seven now, she won’t be a child for much longer and I’m really looking forward to doing things and going places with her this summer that I haven’t been able to do in previous years.  Those of you who follow me on Instagram, be warned, you are likely to see a fair few child-related activity pictures over the coming weeks …

My blog

As some readers will have noticed, my blog is now in its new home 🙂 although I’m still in the process of updating all my links, including Bloglovin’.  If you followed me previously on Bloglovin’, I will hopefully be able to migrate you over too.

Also on the subject of links, if you come across anything that isn’t working, or looks rather odd, please could you let me know too? Thank you.

Pen paling

I’ve been pen paling with my lovely blogger friend, Lydia recently although my last card to her has gone astray, thank you so much, Royal Mail, grrrr.  And I’ve also started pen paling with another lovely blogger friend, Isabel too.  The idea behind pen paling is that as so much communication today is electronic, it’s rather nice to take time to choose a card or notepaper, and actually put pen to paper.  In today’s world of tweets and texts, it’s lovely to rediscover the simple pleasure of writing to someone, so I definitely want to keep my pen paling going.  Let me know if you’d like to join in?

And those are my goals for this month – as I said, it’s a short list because, for once, I will be spending as much time as possible with my family!

What are your August goals? Will you be spending time with loved ones too? Have you any holidays planned? Do let me know.

It’s so great that you will get to spend more time with your little one this month, and I have to say I love her name, Flora. 🙂
I’m so happy to have you as my pen pal, what fun!

Ah, thank you, that’s a lovely thing to say! And I love pen paling with you too – although I’m never going to match your creativity in the decoration department ?

🌈 Our beloved hobo has taken his last journey. Yes 🌈 Our beloved hobo has taken his last journey. Yesterday evening we had to say farewell to Ginger at nearly 21 years old.

13 years ago he wandered into our greenhouse and decided ours was his new home. So many memories:

😻 He saw us through Buzz, Lily, and Jester, and the arrivals of Spooky, Loki, and Lyra.
😻 Always the most chilled cat, not interested in fighting any other cats, ours or visitors.
😻 Greediest cat ever, not even willing to share with the resident hedgehogs. He could hear the sound of someone walking into the kitchen from 5 miles away.
😻 An inveterate bin diver – our neighbours got used to seeing their recycling spread across the road after he’d gone searching for food.
😻 Always commandeering the warmest spot in the garden or house.
😻 Putting up with Spooky always seeking him out and snuggling up with him.
😻Somehow generating more heat than a volcano, so we could never tolerate him on our laps for more than 10 minutes, we’d have to move him next to us instead.
😻 Always knowing when any of us needed comfort or company and snuggling up to offer purring support.

RIP, Ginger, thank you for choosing us, we were privileged to have you as part of our family, and you leave the biggest hole in all our hearts. 😿

Aka Common Laccaria, Waxy Laccaria, Lackluster Laccaria, Deceiver, apparently they’re edible. But as I’m not a fungi expert, I don’t think I’ll be harvesting them for mushrooms on toast any time soon!

If you don’t have any of these perennials in your outside space, you’re missing a trick.

Happy in pots, baskets, and the ground, ours have survived frost, snow and can’t be beaten for fabulously cheerful pops of colour at this time of year. Highly recommended! 👌
