April 2017 Goals

3rd April 2017      Lisa      Leave a Comment

Following on from the goals I set myself for March, which met with varying levels of success, here’s what I’m hoping to achieve in April.

Contents

  • 1. Wardrobe edit part two
  • 2. Continue reading more books
  • 3. Start riding again
  • 4. Sort out our summer holiday
  • 5. Organise more play dates for Flora
  • 6. Bonus goal

Wardrobe edit part two

I made a start on my wardrobe last month but I still have a loooooong way to go.  I think I was being rather too ambitious so I’m going to aim to sort out just one side of my closet this month.  Just taking baby steps …

Starting as I mean to go on, I’ve already ticked off this month’s Book Group choice (watch out for my review later in April).  Top of my To Read pile now is Gerald Seymour’s “No Mortal Thing”, about the ‘Ndrangheta families, the intelligence services, and organised crime in Europe.  I love Gerald Seymour’s books, I’ve read them all, he never disappoints.

Start riding again

I love riding so, now that the weather is better, I want to treat myself at least once every six weeks.  Being out on a horse makes me feel so much better inside.  Everyday worries just fade away as I chat to my horse, watching his ears flicking backwards and forwards as he listens to me.  And those 90 minutes of freedom make up for a world of pain next day when I can’t move!

Kalkan - Turkey

Sort out our summer holiday

We need to make some decisions this month as to where we’re going to go for our summer holiday.  In previous years we’ve always gone to Kalkan in Turkey where we have many friends.  But the direction Mr Erdogan is heading in, plus the recent ban on taking anything larger than a mobile on return flights, are causing us a great deal of concern.  If it were only the two of us to consider then we’d probably go.  But we have a child so we need to think very carefully about subjecting her to any dangers.

Organise more play dates for Flora

I have been completely rubbish about organising play dates for Flora this year and the Mummy guilt is huge.  Trying to fit in play dates among all the extra-curricular activities has always required dexterity and a degree in juggling but I managed before so I’m not sure what went wrong last term.  MUST. DO. BETTER.

Bonus goal

This one is a carry forward from March.  I want to realise a dinner date with my husband – we managed a lunch date last month (hallelujah) but need to try harder for that elusive evening out!

What are your April goals?  I’d love to hear what you’d like to achieve this month!

Please do share your thoughts in the comments section below, thank you!

🌈 Our beloved hobo has taken his last journey. Yes 🌈 Our beloved hobo has taken his last journey. Yesterday evening we had to say farewell to Ginger at nearly 21 years old.

13 years ago he wandered into our greenhouse and decided ours was his new home. So many memories:

😻 He saw us through Buzz, Lily, and Jester, and the arrivals of Spooky, Loki, and Lyra.
😻 Always the most chilled cat, not interested in fighting any other cats, ours or visitors.
😻 Greediest cat ever, not even willing to share with the resident hedgehogs. He could hear the sound of someone walking into the kitchen from 5 miles away.
😻 An inveterate bin diver – our neighbours got used to seeing their recycling spread across the road after he’d gone searching for food.
😻 Always commandeering the warmest spot in the garden or house.
😻 Putting up with Spooky always seeking him out and snuggling up with him.
😻Somehow generating more heat than a volcano, so we could never tolerate him on our laps for more than 10 minutes, we’d have to move him next to us instead.
😻 Always knowing when any of us needed comfort or company and snuggling up to offer purring support.

RIP, Ginger, thank you for choosing us, we were privileged to have you as part of our family, and you leave the biggest hole in all our hearts. 😿

Aka Common Laccaria, Waxy Laccaria, Lackluster Laccaria, Deceiver, apparently they’re edible. But as I’m not a fungi expert, I don’t think I’ll be harvesting them for mushrooms on toast any time soon!

If you don’t have any of these perennials in your outside space, you’re missing a trick.

Happy in pots, baskets, and the ground, ours have survived frost, snow and can’t be beaten for fabulously cheerful pops of colour at this time of year. Highly recommended! 👌

And to prune them hard, taking lots of cuttings for new plants. I do this every year, and my plant loving friends all know what they’ll be getting in due course! 💖
