AD | It feels like serendipity that International Women’s Day on 8th March is also our gorgeous daughter’s birthday. Regular readers of my blog will know we’ve been asking Flora the same 20 birthday trivia game questions every year, since she was three years old. And this year, our funny, kind, clever, loving, beautiful, not-so-little-any-more star is going to be 15 years old. Where has time gone?

Why Do We Ask the Same 20 Birthday Trivia Game Questions Every Year?
Because it’s fun! I actually stumbled across this birthday questions and answers idea on Pinterest before she was born, and it’s now a treasured family tradition. What you do is keep all your child’s answers each year, along with a birthday photograph, in a folder to pass over to them when they turn 18. The idea is they can then look back on their responses through the years, tracking their tastes, loves, and ambitions on their journey from child to adult.
What Did Our Birthday Girl Say Last Year?
Last year saw a firm commitment to all things aeroplane, something further cemented by a trip to RIAT (Royal International Air Tattoo) in July. I’d booked it for Alan and Flora but I absolutely LOVED it too. And that was followed up by enrolling in a local flight school to start lessons with the aim of attaining her Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) as soon as she’s old enough. Fun fact: did you know, you can qualify as a pilot before you can get your driving licence?
What Does Our Birthday Girl Say This Year?
This time around the answers to her 20 birthday trivia game questions feature some new interests, a new animal favourite I’m very much NOT on board with, and a firm commitment to her career choice.

20 Birthday Trivia Questions and Answers – Our Family Tradition
The last 12 months have seen her take on more and more of the cooking – she makes a mean poached egg, some fabulous smashed burgers (from scratch), and an amazing mushroom pasta. I’m slightly surprised Kefalonia was the favourite holiday destination though, because we had a wonderful Autumn break in Turkey too. The highlight of which was getting to sit in the Captain’s seat in the airplane once we’d landed back home. Truly a magical way to end the holiday.
And this year is another milestone – after choosing her GCSE options last summer, she’s now halfway through her first year of study. And she’s so much more independent now – happy to catch the bus on her own to head into town to meet with friends, although not averse to wheedling a lift from time to time either. Alan thinks we need a Taxi sign, but I’ve pointed out that implies we’re getting paid, so…
I’m happy to say she’s still an avid watcher of different news channels (BBC, Sky, Al-Jazeera) and reader of Alan’s Economist, with an incisive grasp of current affairs that not many adults have, let alone a teenager. Truthfully, she often teaches us as much as we teach her. And I’m very proud to acknowledge that, as well as everything else she’s achieved to date.
While I cannot believe she’s nearly 15 now, we cannot wait to see what she’ll do next, and how far she’ll go in the next 12 months too. We’re so privileged to have you, Ning. So, happy birthday, Flora, you are our brightest and our best. 🌟
