AD – GIFTED | As there are just the three of us, we love to make a huge fuss of each other for our birthdays. And a yummy cake is a MUST. This year we wanted to make Alan’s birthday extra special, so Flora and I were very pleased to have the opportunity to chsose a personalised bakerdays letterbox cake * for him.
bakerdays letterbox cakes
Bakerdays offer you the opportunity to create customised cakes and balloons for any occasion. You can choose your design, size, flavour, and even personalise it with photos. Bakerdays cater for gluten, wheat free and dairy free too. Delivery is super quick – if you order by 2pm it will arrive the next day. But the best thing is that they come in a package that’s small enough to fit through most letterboxes, so you don’t even have to be in to take delivery.
Alan’s bakerdays birthday cake
As some of my readers may know, Alan is an ex-RAF officer, so no prizes for guessing what type of design Flora wanted to go for. We chose a cake in rich chocolate chip, then personalised our message, including font, style, colour, and selected a delivery date just before his birthday. Honestly, the website process couldn’t have been simpler.
I did say bakerdays letterbox cakes should fit through most letterboxes but we obviously have a tiny one because it was left in our neighbour’s porch. Luckily, she was in, so all was well and Alan got to open his surprise cake on the big day.
The cake arrived in this funky tin inside a cardboard box. But, as all my fellow bloggers will recognise, Alan had to wait to open and taste it until I’d taken all the photos for this post, haha, ooops.
Design and taste
Ta-dah, the big reveal! Flora chose an aircraft design, with some very cute and colourful bi-planes.
As you can see, the cake had slid over to one side in transit, but this didn’t matter in the slightest, Alan was still absolutely chuffed to bits with it.
The design was so cute I didn’t want to cut into it but for review purposes (and for his birthday) I had to (!) We all thought the chocolate sponge was lovely and light and the chocolate cream was just the right side of not too sweet. The fondant icing was a light covering but I’m not a fan of icing so Flora gobbled mine instead and pronounced it delicious.
Bakerdays letterbox cakes – worth it?
Before starting my blog and engaging on Twitter, I had no clue such a thing as a letterbox cake even existed. But don’t you think it’s a great idea? Perfect for any occasion and so easy to order. I’ll certainly be taking advantage of this again for future celebrations. Have you tried bakerdays before? What do you think of cakes through the post?

Thank you, Via, I’ll pass that on to both of them. Yes, as soon as she saw the bi-planes there was no further attempt at browsing, haha! 🙂 xx
Cute design that you picked. Love the little planes.
Ah, thank you, credit has to go to Flora though, she chose them! x

There really is boxes for everything! The cake looks so good, and I love the designs on it. I like in the US so I can’t participate in the giveaway, I hope it goes well Lisa.
So it seems, haha! Aw, I’m sorry the giveaway is UK only but thank you for commenting 🙂 x
Oh wow what a great idea. My hubby is ex military too. I love this idea as we don’t always have time to do everything. Xx
Yes, it’s such a great idea, ideal for those of us who have a zillion and one things that haven’t even made it a To Do list yet, haha! xx
Any cake is good cake. I love the idea of a cake being posted. Fast food bakeries are the future IMO. Lovely post.
You are so right, haha, there is no such thing as bad cake, especially when it’s delivered so quickly ? x
They’re such a good idea! And great for last minute forgetfulness (frequent in my family). I love that Flora chose the design and the end product looks amazing. Shame about the abnormally small letterbox though…. I hope you all had a great dayx

I know, we may need to look at upgrading our letterbox, haha! But the cake was lovely, he was so thrilled with it 🙂 x
I absolutely LOVE bakerdays! I worked with them last year I believe but since then, I’ve won TWO giveaways that other people had run for them so all in all, I’ve had 3 of their letterbox cakes and I can’t get enough haha! I also choose the chocolate sponge every time and it’s so yummy! So glad you and Alan both liked it. I’ll be entering your giveaway and hopefully take my tally up to 4! 😉 xxx
You’ve won two bakerdays giveaways already? You lucky thing! I was tempted by the lemon drizzle option but I know Alan would prefer chocolate so… 🙂 Good luck in the giveaway, haha! xx
Wow this birthday cake idea is so amazing!
