AD | “I think jewelry can change an outfit more than anything else.” Although jewelry is designed to enhance the appearance of the wearer, it can be a real challenge to know how best to wear it. Some people seem to feel the more the jewelry they wear, the better. Others mix their treasures in a way that often clashes. Fortunately, there are a few tried and tested jewelry combos that work and are suited to nearly every occasion. Let’s take a look at a few tips for combining jewelry to enhance your outfits.
5 Tips for Creating Jewelry Combos
The Rule of 3
This says 3 jewelry items are enough, and each piece thereafter is excessive. Ideally, two of these three items should be some distance from the third. So if you chose earrings and a necklace, you should wear the third jewelry item away from your face – a bracelet or a ring, perhaps. Or, if you’re opting for a wristwatch and a ring, choose a necklace or earrings as your third item. Brooches aren’t as popular nowadays, but if you do wear one, don’t wear a necklace as well. It can be too much on one area, and your necklace is quite likely to get caught on the brooch.
Choose Jewelry in the Same Materials and Styles
The combination of lots of different metals can look a little like a patchwork. The exception being when they’re used together in one single piece of jewelry (like the famous Cartier Trinity). Or a few bangles or delicate necklaces layered together can look extremely pretty.
Diamonds
Diamonds don’t share well, and are usually best combined with more diamond jewelry and not other precious stones. That said, within one single jewelry piece such as earrings, a pendant, a bracelet, or a ring, the mix can create rather interesting combinations.
Coloured Gems
Coloured gems also have their compatibility. Red stones prefer the companions of the same red spectrum. Green gems look good alone and when mixed with yellow or white stones. Yellow is also rather practical and can be combined with a lot of shades, except for blue and purple, as the contrast becomes too bright. But the mixture of black, dark blue, and purple look very dark together.
Size Matters
The style and size of the jewelry also matters. For example, huge earrings and a slender chain won’t look too good together. Whereas replacing the chain with a chunky bracelet to fit the earrings will balance the image, just like a delicate ring would perfectly complement a thin chain necklace.
5 Awesome Jewelry Combos To Try
Earrings + necklace + ring
The classic trio that, if carefully chosen, always makes an impact. This season those who follow fashion might have noticed that sets of jewelry combos were starting to appear at podiums again. Why not try teaming a massive gold chain with a pair of statement gold earrings, and completing the look with a large gold ring. Huge chains are very popular these days, especially styles such as the Cuban link chain and Mariner. They also make perfect real diamond chains, especially if you have the means to add the earrings and a ring of the same style.
Chain + pendant
Often considered as a single jewelry item, the best chain for a heavy pendant is always open for discussion, but it’s better to choose a strong and durable chain necklace that’s more easily able to hold larger medallions. Such as the Cuban link chain chokers, which are among the hottest trends, and can easily bear a personalised pendant.
Pendants and lockets are probably the most diverse jewelry, and they rarely become outdated. Floral patterns, butterflies, and large natural stones make beautiful references to the treasures created by Nature. Or, fashionistas could go for pendants with their favourite couture house logos. But the choice is so wide you’ll definitely find the right one for you.
For those with sensitive ears, adding delicate cartilage pieces can elevate the look without causing discomfort; a curated selection of cartilage earrings from CordsClub provides both hypoallergenic and fashion-forward options to complete your accessory ensemble
Necklace + bracelet
One of the most popular jewelry combos and a classic pairing that won’t fail to complete any look is the matching chain necklace and bracelet. Chains are highly popular this season, and all the various styles offer many possibilities to experiment with your image.
Choosing a pearl-themed necklace+bracelet combo gives off timeless Chanel vibes, and with a number of famous fashion houses adding pearls to their designs, it’s no longer only a look for the more mature woman. And of course, you have the classic diamond tennis bracelet and necklace, an elegant and graceful combination that works with any outfit.
Bracelets
How can one single piece become a combo? 2022 has seen a real trend for double bracelets. Similar bracelets for both hands were made of different materials, shapes, styles and sizes. Leather, gold, plastic, chains, pearls, and metal all draw attention. The same trick applies with a matching bracelet and a wristwatch. Stacked metal or chain bracelets also remain popular this season, as the layers of shiny jewelry on your arm add texture and volume to your look.
Bracelet + ring
Multiple rings that adorn all the fingers and even several rings on one finger were spotted at fashion shows this year. How to combine them with a bracelet? Keep the balance by wearing a bracelet on one hand and the number of rings on the other. The classic advice is one ring + bracelet on one hand, two rings on the other. But this is your style, so why not create your own signature look?
The charm of jewelry lies in its ability to change in combination with outfits, other jewelry items, and whoever is wearing it. You never know how different jewelry combos will look. So have some fun, experiment with what makes you feel good, and remember, accessories always make everything better 🙂
