AD | One of my recurring fears when we go abroad on holiday is that one or more of our suitcases won’t make it onto the plane with us. And with the current and ongoing chaos at UK airports, there’s a very good chance that could happen. So, I was very grateful that the opportunity to trial a PAJ GPS tracker came along shortly before we were due to fly to Malta this year. I’d always thought location trackers were only for commercial enterprises, but that’s not so. There are lots of advantages to using a personal GPS tracker device too.
What is a GPS Tracking Device and How Do They Work?
Originally designed for use by the US military in 1973 a Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking unit is a surveillance device placed in/on a vehicle, asset, person, or animal, which uses satellite navigation to determine their location remotely.
The GPS technology can pinpoint longitude, latitude, ground speed, and course direction of the target. Today, GPS is also used in commercial aircraft, company fleets, boats, cars, and for activities such as hiking, fishing, and kayaking. Meteorologists use it for weather forecasting and global climate studies; and geologists use it for surveys and in earthquake studies.
How To Set Up and Install The PAJ GPS Tracker
PAJ has a comprehensive range of electronic tracking device finders to choose from – I went for the PAJ GPS Tracker – Easy Finder 4G*. Inside the box you have your PAJ GPS tracker with an M2M SIM card already installed. Other accessories include a protective pouch with a clip and belt loop, neck strap, instruction manual, USB charging lead, and electrical socket plug.
Ours was a continental 2-pin, but fortunately we already had a UK adaptor, otherwise you’d need to purchase one. While the device is water resistant (IP65 standard), it’s not waterproof, so don’t go swimming with it, or drop it in a puddle.
There are just three simple steps to set up and install your PAJ GPS tracker device. Firstly, you need to charge it for between 8 to 12 hours, after which it has up to 14 days of battery life in standby mode. So, perfect for a 2-week holiday.
Next, you need to set up an account via the PAJ Finder Portal website or via the PAJ GPS tracker app, available on both Apple and Google Play. You can track your device via laptop, PC or mobile phone via the app. I downloaded the app because I wanted to be able to track things from my phone (my laptop doesn’t come on holiday with us).
Lastly, to enjoy all the benefits of online tracking, you need to sign up for a subscription – there are monthly, annual, and biannual plans available. This includes the monthly costs for the integrated SIM card as well. I was kindly given a 6 months PAJ GPS tracker subscription as part of this review. Once you’ve chosen your plan, you can login to the Finder Portal, press the on button on the top of your tracker device for a few seconds, and you’re ready to start tracking.
What do I get for my PAJ GPS tracker subscription?
PAJ is one of the leading European brands in the field of GPS tracker devices, offering tracking in over 100 countries. Compared to, say, an Apple Air Tag, you can view a LOT more real time data and information for your money, as well as set your own alerts and boundaries. Here’s what you can access in the Portal Finder:
– Live worldwide tracking coverage
– Stored driving routes of up to 365 days historical data
– Different types of alerts (you can activate alarms and be notified by push notifications and/or emails about any triggered alarms) including:
- if the GPS is shaken or moved
- an SOS if the alarm button (the square underneath the logo on the Easy Finder 4G) is pressed
- as soon as the GPS leaves a specific area – you can set the geofencing boundaries you need
- if the GPS exceeds a specific speed
- as soon as the battery is low (around 20%).
How do I connect a PAJ GPS tracker to my phone?
Make sure your phone’s Bluetooth is enabled, open the PAJ App, enter the email address and password you used for your subscription at the PAJ GPS login, and you’re good to go.
Can GPS work without the Internet?
Yes, as long as you have a charged smartphone you can always use GPS on your mobile device, and find your way around remote areas and foreign landscapes. GPS trackers work on your phone without Internet connectivity or cellular service.
How Does The PAJ GPS Easy Finder 4G Tracker Work?
We already had 2 Apple Air Tags, so we used these alongside the Easy Finder 4G in our 3 suitcases for our holiday to Gozo (you fly to Malta, then take a ferry to Gozo). After landing in Malta, we could see from the Finder app they were on their way to baggage reclaim – phew.
Once in our accommodation, you can see the first screen shows our UK home (the car icon), and our current holiday location (the orange arrow). Clicking the orange arrow brings up a geolocation link, and clicking on that link opens up a map of exactly where your device is.
You can also track your device by going to Nearby Devices in your dashboard, which shows the route taken from your home location to where your device is now, so you can set a marker. Other useful options in the dashboard, including the Application Settings tab, which is where you set your email address to receive alarm notifications, and also where you find your sharing link, so you can share data with, say, your insurance company or the police.
What Are the Benefits of a PAJ GPS Tracker?
Although I opted for a personal tracker for our summer holiday, I can see plenty of other benefits of investing in such a device. So, what else could a GPS tracker be used for?
To locate cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles
I read recently about a luxury £200,000 Bentley stolen in London that was found 5,000 miles away in Pakistan, thanks to a car tracker. You can see why company cars and truck fleets tend to be fitted with GPS trackers as well. And if you’re planning a road trip, a GPS tracker would be an ideal must have on your list of essentials to take with you.
To track agricultural or industrial machinery, cargo shipments, and other assets
As per my review, being able to track where your possessions and other assets are at all times offers not only peace of mind, but is also invaluable if you have to make a claim via your insurance company or the police.
While pursuing solo activities – running, walking, cycling
I’m a female runner, so this feels very appealing. Not that I encounter anyone other than fellow runners or dog walkers in our village, but having a GPS tracker means that were anything to happen to me (attack or accident), I could be found more easily.
For vulnerable family members and friends
You can set a virtual boundary for young children, the elderly, or those with a disability or special needs, so if they wander off, you’ll be alerted. The topic of GPS trackers for the health industry is gaining ground, because people with dementia often have mobility issues too.
Rather than keeping them locked inside, giving them a personal tracker allows them to move about and still be within reach of the caregivers in case of emergencies. Our daughter will be going abroad on a school trip next year, and she’ll be taking our PAJ GPS tracker with her as well.
For pets, livestock, and farms
PAJ are currently trialling dedicated trackers (smaller than the one I’ve reviewed here) for dogs, which can also be used for cats, horses, and (their suggestion) beekeepers. So, if your beloved pet or prize bull goes AWOL, they can be easily tracked and found. And if you have an accident whilst out riding, or if you’re violently stung by your bees, a GPS tracker with an SOS button will ensure help finds you quickly as well.
Where To Buy the PAJ GPS Easy Finder 4G Tracker
PAJ have their own dedicated PAJ GPS store on Amazon* so ordering a GPS tracker is easy, with swift delivery too. At the time of writing you can buy the Easy Finder 4G Tracker on Amazon* for £48.99 – an absolute bargain. Or, if you’re looking for a car tracker, kids tracker, asset tracker, vehicle tracker, or other form of personal tracker, they offer all of these too.
Put simply, you can keep tabs on and protect anything and anyone you love with one of these incredibly handy little tracker devices. I’m really very impressed but how much data and information they offer, I had no idea this was even possible! Huge thanks to PAJ for sending me the Easy Finder 4G, I can see it’s going to have a lot of use going forwards 🙂
Have you ever used a GPS tracker device? What do you think of the PAJ GPS tracker I’ve reviewed here? Would this be a personal device you’d find useful too?

Great review! I think the initial thought of a GPS tracker is quite daunting, but in reality they can be used for so many different ‘normal’ reasons. Totally didn’t know about the 200K bentley! That’s insane!

Thank you! Yes, I know what you mean, I didn’t realise how useful they can be on a personal level before either 🙂
There are definitely so many benefits to trackers like this, despite how daunting it might sound to have a GPS tracker on you, I think the benefits outweigh the risks. Honestly, the idea of my suitcase going missing and having to do my whole holiday without my stuff is one of my worst nightmares haha. Someone I know recently told me that her son went on holiday with his friend and all their family as they own a villa in Portugal. There was about 30 of them and EVERY SINGLE SUITCASE went missing and was put on the wrong plane – aaaah!
Oh my goodness, every suitcase? For 30 people? What a complete nightmare! And yes, the thought of a surveillance device was a little strange but I hadn’t realised how many useful applications they had – I don’t think I’ll be going abroad or running without ours now 🙂
Wow, this is cool and I like that it works without the internet because when I use my phone map. I can’t lose the internet otherwise I will be lost lol. Thank you for sharing!
It’s brilliant because it relies on satellites, not an unreliable internet or mobile phone connection 🙂
This sounds like a really amazing safety tool! I’d love to get one of these for the next time I travel internationally.
Highly recommended, if only for peace of mind.
I can see how useful this would be when going out walking, hiking or camping, etc or even just to have on you as you travel around. I had no idea there was something like this so easily available!
Neither did I to be honest, but it’s so useful, I can’t believe I’ve only just discovered personal GPS trackers!
I never would have considered how useful GPS trackers can be for things like suitcases and locating one’s car if I had not read this! There are definitely some creative ways to use trackers to our advantage here, and I love that there is a dog tracker in the works. How handy! 🙂
Thank you, Jaya, that’s very kind – and I don’t know many people who’d realised this about GPS trackers for personal use either!
I really like how this device has an app available. Using one of these would really cut down on the stress of finding luggage, especially if it were to go missing!
It’s such a good idea, isn’t it? And so easy to use 🙂
Tracker devices are such a great way to keep track of your belongings and people, especially when you are travelling!

They really are, I had no idea just how useful they are before we got our PAJ tracker! x
Great post Lisa! I love the sound of this tracker, thank you for sharing all the benefits for different travellers 🙂 x
Thank you, Eleanor, I’m so pleased it was helpful! x
Hi Lisa,
What a fantastic device. I know that GPS has been around for a while but it does now seem to be used in more and more useful scenarios. As a dog owner, I’ll be interested to see the developments that they make with pet trackers (I know that some manufacturers already have such devices). (I did briefly think that they were proposing to make one small enough to attach to a bee! But I see that they mean a device for the beekeepers themselves rather than the bees 🙂 )
Hi Richie, funnily enough I thought of you when I mentioned the dog tracker! Yes, I agree, GPS has been around for a while but the personal tracker aspect had completely passed me by, so we’re very happy with our PAJ 🙂
Wow… this gadget looks like an investment-worthy one. You make me wanna get one for myself. Thank you for sharing, Lisa.
And my job here is done! Thank you, Fadima 🙂
This one is sure a good read! Very informative and useful for travelers like us! Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome, and thank you, glad it was helpful!
This GPS Tracker is so helpful! The perks are crazy. I also have that fear of losing my things. This will come on handy for the next year when we will travel to Japan.
I think the amount of information you get, together with the App, really make this tracker stand out – happy holidays next year, Monique 🙂
The trackers sound wonderful, and I love that they can work without the internet.
xoxo

That’s a key benefit, isn’t it!
I love the SOS button features. That can be super helpful to any parent who wants to make sure their child is safe!
Absolutely – as I parent I couldn’t agree more!
