AD | If I had to choose one room in the house that I loathe having to clean, it’s the bathroom. Sadly, despite her best efforts, Mrs Hinch cannot not make me fall in love with Zoflora. Why can’t bathroom trends incorporate a self-cleaning bathroom that doesn’t cost a fortune, and isn’t utterly impractical? So, after browsing through the likes of ELLE Decor, Ideal Home, House Beautiful, and Pinterest (of course), I’ve come up with my bathroom design wish list. And it features these four beautiful trends that are also, crucially for me, both practical and relatively easy to keep clean.
Bathroom trends you’ll love – my favourites
There’s a whole world of avant-garde designs out there. For example, a concrete shower might be stunning but it’s not very kind to your upstairs floors, is it? Or take a hands-free, motion-activated tap – that means less water scale and soap scum build up, but it’s not a budget option. Surely one of the key features of a well-designed bathroom is that it’s somewhere you want to spend time pampering yourself? And not having to inhale bleach as you scrub the tiles, nor holding your nose and getting bashed fingers as you dust the pipework behind the toilet.
Wet rooms
Wet rooms are something of a luxury touch, I always feel. There’s something about the freedom of all that space to move around in while you luxuriate in a waterfall of hot water. No more keeping your elbows tucked in, or having to manoeuvre gingerly around an enclosed cubicle and grope blindly for a towel. And if you choose large tiles and a darker grout, you’ll make your life easier when it’s time to clean. Plus, the odd bit of mould will hardly be noticeable…
Shower screens
When I was a child, we didn’t have a shower screen, we had a manky plastic curtain that I was forever pulling off its rings. I know it’s not practical to have water spraying everywhere but rather than having an enclosed shower cubicle, which will attract mould and gunk like mad, consider installing a single shower screen* instead. It’s far easier to keep clean and it doesn’t have to be plain glass either. A design like this one not only looks more modern and interesting, but the grid pattern will make it easier to see when you’ve got soap blurring your eyes.
High tech digital showers
In today’s digital world, the desire to integrate lighting, sound, steam and water into a multi-sensory bathing experience is on the rise. Digital showers aren’t as expensive as they used to be, and many of them come with water saving technology to reduce water consumption by up to a third too. Colour-changing lights and funky remote controls show you when your desired water temperature is ready for you. If your digital shower is fitted over a bath, it can even fill your bath to whatever temperature and depth you require. And the safety valve that stops the water running over is a feature that I love. I mean, I can’t be the only one usually leaves the water running too long, surely?
A huge bath tub in front of a window
If standing up under a shower doesn’t appeal, then I don’t think I need to say too much about this option, do I? Obviously, you need to site your bath somewhere that you won’t be overlooked (unless that’s your thing, of course…) If you can’t find a suitable window, then what about bathing under the stars with a fabulous skylight? Either way, a long soak in a huge freestanding bath tub with a beautiful view to admire while you sip your glass of chilled bubbles takes some beating. And the bonus is, a sleek model like this will be easy to wipe clean too.
So, if you’ve been thinking about upgrading your home with a new en-suite or are just curious about what’s out there, then I hope my easy-to-clean wish list favourites have given you some food for thought. And obviously, using a house cleaning service would make life a lot simpler too (!) But in the meantime, as our bathrooms are where we spend such a lot of our time, surely it makes sense that they’re as inviting as they can be, don’t you think?

I like the sound of a wet room! Having the freedom to splash in a relaxing and not ugly atmosphere would be very pleasant. I would love to shower even in a steamy room.

Ugh, these are giving me some serious luxury bathroom list. Right now we have a tiny bathroom (with the manky curtain!) that is impossible to keep clean. I think my fantasy is the shower screen. It looks so classic, and it’s all the better if it’s easier to keep clean. Of course, a giant luxurious tub with a view would be nice, but not ideal with the suburbs. Great post 🙂
Ah, we used to have a tiny bathroom, they are the worst because the steam has nowhere to go, I feel your pain! Although I agree, a huge tub with a view of your neighbours is not ideal, haha.
A wet room would be a dream. Or just a bigger tub. Our current bathroom that has a tub has no windows and becomes dusty fast – it’s the worst to clean.
Our old flat’s bathroom didn’t have a window either and I hated it, so depressing with no natural daylight, and now I come to think of it, it did get dusty quickly as well!
I’ll know I’ve made it in life when I can have a free-standing claw feet bath in front of a window. It’s the height of luxury for me. Thank you for curating this list!

This is so appropriate as my new bathroom was FINISHED today!! I am beyond excited for it. I wish we’d had a bathtub in front of a window but there was no room instead we have a tray with a screen and one of those massive overhead showers.
We went black grout on the floor for cleaning purposes!!

Lush ideas in here Lisa! Our bathroom is a shabby chic style and so difficult to keep clean. I already replaced the lovely old fashioned taps to sleek modern ones. Next thing going is the vintage shower aka chalk magnet 😹

Thank you for bringing up digital showers and how they’ve been improved by modern technology. The fact that they have water-saving options and different kinds of aesthetic designs makes me think that I would need one for my own bathroom to give it a fresh new look and so we won’t waste as much water as we used to. With that said, as soon as I find a bathroom remodeling contractor in the area, I’ll make sure a digital shower is one of the things I ask from them.
