The Liebster Award

16th October 2017      Lisa      32 Comments

I’ve been nominated for my first Blogger Award, hooray! The lovely Lydia at Mademoiselle Women has very kindly tagged me to do the Liebster Award. For those that don’t know, the Liebster Award is a way to connect with and support other newbies in the blogging community, and to promote each other’s blogs.  It’s also a fun way to get to know a little more about each other.

Contents

  • 1. The Liebster Award Rules
  • 2. Lydia’s questions for me
  • 3. My nominated 11 bloggers are …
  • 4. And my 11 questions for you are …

The Liebster Award Rules

The rules are quite straightforward, you need to:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and link to their post,
  • Answer the 11 questions they asked you,
  • Nominate 11 other bloggers, with your own set of 11 questions,
  • Tag your chosen 11 bloggers, and don’t forget to tell them as well!

Lydia’s questions for me

1. What inspired you to blog?
I’d had a few run ins with my (now ex) boss towards the end of 2016 that had severely dented my confidence. And it had taken away a lot of the pleasure and pride I used to feel in my work. I needed to find something that would make me feel creative again, even if it was only for me.  Starting my own blog in January 2017 seemed like a perfect way to do this, although it felt very scary at the time.
 The-liebster-award-lisasnotebook-blogging-inspiration
2. What do you think about niches?
I have huge respect for bloggers who do specialise in one area, but I don’t have a niche because I like the freedom to write about all sorts of topics. I think if I had to confine myself to one area I’d find myself struggling for content and ideas. I like mixing it up!
3. Instagram follow/unfollow game: thoughts?
I just don’t understand the whole follow/unfollow game at all. In Instagram or Twitter. I get that sometimes you fall out of love with someone’s content and then unfollow them. But the game of following someone to boost your numbers and then promptly unfollowing them afterwards? It just runs completely contrary to the supportive ethos of our blogging community.
4. Twitter or Instagram?
I love Twitter for the engagement, the chats, and the chance to connect with and discover other bloggers, brands, and people generally. But I also love Instagram for the pictures, there are some truly beautiful and interesting feeds out there. I think on balance though, I’m going to go for Twitter.
5. What do you think about Blogger drama?
I think there are better ways to deal with issues, such as privately messaging someone to give them a chance to explain or defend themselves. Tweets in particular are very easy to dash off and send. A couple of my past emails were misinterpreted by the recipients so I’m very careful about what I write and post/send now. I don’t want to upset anyone, particularly in a public arena.
6. Should Blogs be political?
If you feel passionately about a cause then it’s your prerogative to write about it. It’s up to the rest of us as to whether or not we read it. We live in a democracy and we have freedom of choice over what we read and write. Something to be profoundly grateful for, I believe.
7. Lipstick or lipgloss
Lipstick every time. I loathe gloss, it never stays put and my hair sticks to it when it’s windy.
 The-liebster-award-lisasnotebook-lipstick
8. Eyeliner or mascara?
Eyeliner and eyebrow powder. My eyes and brows always need definition otherwise I look like a potato.
9. Who is your favourite celebrity?
Helen Mirren. I think she’s an outstanding role model: intelligent, wise, funny, talented, beautiful, sexy as hell. Remember THAT red bikini snap?
10. Favourite meal and why?
Blowing my own trumpet here, I’m going to say my Sunday roasts. It’s the one meal that we all enjoy and always eat every scrap. Big thank you owed to Delia Smith for teaching me how to cook the perfect roast potato 🙂
11. What’s in your handbag?
Mostly stuff that Flora might want or need <sighs>. Wipes, tissues, her purse, pens, notebook (for doodles), my wallet, fold up shopping bags, my phone, our lip balms, car keys (Mum’s Taxi), front door keys, my diary (for her play dates), a dragon …

I hope you enjoyed reading my answers, and a big thank you again to Lydia for nominating me, I had a lot of fun answering these questions!

P A E Reviews
Faisal Ali

And my 11 questions for you are …

  1. When and where do you like to blog?
  2. What is your favourite post you’ve written and why?
  3. What’s your favourite type of blog post to read?
  4. If you could be any superhero/heroine, who would you be and why?
  5. T-Rex or dragon? Why?
  6. Do you believe in ghosts? Why/why not?
  7. What book are you currently reading?
  8. What was the first single you ever bought (or downloaded!)
  9. What was your favourite subject at school?
  10. What did you want to be when you grew up?
  11. Saturday night: Strictly or X-Factor? Why?

Good luck, and don’t forget to tag me when you do your post, I’m looking forward to your answers!

Really interesting questions from Lydia, and I love your answers. I totally agree on lipstick vs lipgloss Too! Lipstick stays on so much better, usually doesn’t taste weird and gives a much better colour.

Congrats on the nomination ! You got some interesting questions! That sucks what happened with you and your boss! I hate mean people! Also instead of putting lipgloss on my lips
I put it on my eyes for a glossy effect ! Super cute 🙂 I also agree about the follow unfollow tactic on Insta it’s so annoying and some people get away with it!

Thank you! Yes, Lydia wrote some brilliant questions, she’s very clever. Wow, I never thought about gloss on my eyes, I’ve tried Vaseline but maybe I’ll have to dig out a clear lipgloss and try that now. Great tip, thank you! x

I love these sorts of posts because I’m soooooo nosey! I really loved your reasoning for starting blogging (though I’m sorry your boss was so mean!) I think so many of us view our blogs as a sort of personal sanctuary, that is also opened to the big wide web lol!

I love your answers to these questions, especially regarding blogging drama. It’s exhausting watching things that can (and should!) be settled in private being blasted everywhere so that people can gang up on each other. Not at all what the blogging community should be like!
Also I really doubt you ever look like a potato!
