AD | One of the things that I loved most about our home when I first saw it was the beautiful patterned stone kitchen floor. However, I quickly found out that looks aren’t everything. Our stone tiles are cold and hard underfoot, and surprisingly awkward to clean. So updating our kitchen floor has been on my wish list for quite some time. Top of the list of options is vinyl tile flooring and here’s why.

Why choose vinyl tile flooring for your kitchen floor
Our kitchen isn’t simply a place to cook food. I work from the kitchen table and Flora does her homework and science activities in here. And the kitchen is probably the room we spend the most time in after our bedrooms. So in many ways, it’s the true heart of our home. And because of that, when thinking about flooring, the main priority is something that looks good, feels good, and is easy to maintain. Much as I love the wooden floor in our conservatory, that’s not a practical option for our kitchen. But luxury vinyl tile flooring, or LVT, could be a great choice for us, as well as anyone else if you’re looking for easy ways to update your kitchen.
LVT versus ceramic tile
When I drop a plate or glass on our ceramic tiles, unless all my guardian angels are smiling, I know they’ll shatter into a million pieces. Worse still, if I drop something really heavy, there’s every possibility a tile will crack and need replacing. But with luxury vinyl tile, anything that’s dropped is less likely to break due to the cushioning effect of vinyl tile flooring. And even if the tile has to be replaced, it’s a much faster and less expensive job.
Vinyl tile flooring looks good
Vinyl flooring has come a long way from the early days when its propensity for poor wear and, frankly, ugly design was extremely off putting. Nowadays however, luxury vinyl flooring can mimic natural woods and stones with ease. Even some of the cheapest Amtico flooring can provide the ultimate in finishes for your home. And the only limitation to the final look is your imagination. If you’re considering a modern kitchen extension for example, why not go wild with patterns or designs using different colours or wood tones?
Vinyl tile flooring feels good
The kitchen is usually one of the coldest floors to step on (certainly in my house anyway). But LVTs are a great insulator. And the Amtico Spacia and Signature ranges provide cushion quality comfort underfoot. So not only will your floor feel warm to the touch, the insulating effect can help with the energy and heating bills. Oh, and they can be used with underfloor heating too.
Vinyl tile flooring is easy to maintain
Our kitchens tend to be extremely high traffic areas, but luxury vinyl tiles are incredibly wear resistant and almost impervious to scuffs and marks. In fact, Amtico even offer a 25-year warranty on their Spacia flooring tiles. And going back to that all important easy-to-maintain factor, LVTs are super easy to clean too. Unlike real stone tiles or wood floors that can end up with dirt and grime ground into them. As vinyl tile flooring is waterproof, all you need is a mop, bucket, some warm water and floor cleaner to get it looking as good as new again.
The kitchen as the heart of the home
As I’m writing this post, although my feet are snuggled into Ugg-type slippers, they’re still freezing from our unforgiving kitchen stone floor. And looking around, I can see a lot of grubby grout and other marks that certainly aren’t part of the original pattern. No doubt due to a continual stream of cats, children, and other visitors continually traipsing through. Because bearing in mind how much time we spend in our kitchen, I do think it’s as much a sociable area as our living room. So if I really want a kitchen floor that looks good, feels good, and is easy to maintain, I think some luxury vinyl tile flooring could just be the answer.
Do you have any vinyl tile flooring in your kitchen? Or anywhere else in your home? Have you ever considered vinyl flooring before? And if not, are you tempted to now?

What a great selection, this post will be very helpful when I come to buying my own property. Thank you for sharing Lisa.

Oh that’s great to hear, thank you, Lauren!
I love vinyl flooring, it’s such an affordable alternative. I think that’s what I’m having in my office. Although I’d love underfloor heating with it! xxx
It really is, and it would be perfect for your garden office – so jealous, haha! xxx
Amtico flooring is beautiful. We have an awful kitchen floor that is cracked tiles and it is so cold and NEVER comes clean. The kitchen is the next big job but it needs completely remodeling so a big job.
I think getting the flooring spot on is what really finishes a room off. Great advice here Lisa x
Your kitchen floor sounds a lot like ours, I’d never use ceramic tiles from choice I must admit! Good luck with your kitchen remodel, Claire
I bought vinyl flooring for our caravan, but it was not a good choice. While it has all the benefits you mentioned, the one we got wasn’t such a great quality despite its price. We will have to replace it, but with everything in lockdown it’s not something we are going to do now.
I think I might try vinyl again (not in the caravan), but I’m not sure where, as our plans for the kitchen are already made (floor-wise).
Ah, that’s a shame about your caravan but better luck second time around – there are some really good quality vinyl flooring choices out there now.
We renovated our kitchen this time last year and put in all new vinyl tile floors and wow what a difference it makes!

Oh, that’s amazing, so good to hear!

Thank you so much, I’m so glad they were helpful 🙂
You put forward a very strong case. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you 🙂
Warm flooring is definitely a plus, especially when you live in an area where winter strikes hard! Growing up, we were in the ‘snow belt’ in Ontario, Canada. I can remember far too many mornings where the floors were so cold you could feel it through your socks hahaha I would have loved to have something like this at that point. While I am further south in the province now, and the cold isn’t quite as harsh, it would still be a great perk!
The snow belt sounds amazing for a child but far less so as an adult – glad you live somewhere warmer now, Britt!
This was such an interesting read, I never realised how many options there were for revamping your kitchen floor! x

Thank you, Lucy, I’m so pleased it was interesting! x
I love vinyl flooring because it doesn’t scratch the way wood does! A key point for all of us dog owners! Thanks so much for the detailed synopsis.

That’s an excellent point, Sue! Glad this post was useful 🙂
We currently have vinyl flooring in our kitchen and I’m a big fan of it. Having said that, it could also use a bit of an upgrade and this flooring looks like the perfect choice for it’s style and practicality Thanks for sharing.
That’s great to hear – thank you for confirming the benefits 🙂
I really want to upgrade my home but can’t as we rent and have had landlords (including the current one) who are uninterested in fixing anything or updating the place. I love the idea of the flooring thought — great idea!
Ah, that’s such a shame. Vinyl flooring would be a really good option for landlords too!
Oooh these floors, I’m looking for new flooring at the moment, so definitely going to check these out!
Love, Amie ❤

Amazing kitchen photos!!! They make me want to start a makeover once again.
Ah, they’re stock photos, but yes, they’re very inspiring!
Wow……your kitchen looks gorgeous. Vinyl flooring makes your kitchen look so sophisticated.
I so wish this was my kitchen, Fadima, but they’re stock photos!
Ooooh it is so important to have the right flooring for your kitchen. I am big on having a great kitchen. Love that there are different available options. Big plus with the 25-year warranty. The last thing you want is to invest a ton of money and there is a faulty material. Thanks for sharing about these vinyl floor tile!

Thank you, Nancy! You’re absolutely right about not wanting to waste money, and I’m glad this post was helpful 🙂
I like how easy to clean these look. My current kitchen floor is a hands and knees job, which is NOT fun.
I’m with you on that one, sadly I can’t justify replacing our stone floor (yet!).
Vinyl flooring is really popular with some of our customers, they just love the ease of use. Some of the vinyl options available are so good, you don’t realise that its not hardwood. Thanks a lot for the article.
Yes, it can look incredibly realistic – glad the article was useful 🙂
