AD – GIFTED | If I say “whiteboard” to you, what do you see? A boardroom? A classroom? Something very large indeed? Well, that’s what I thought too until Wedge Whiteboards * offered to send us their A3 Wedge Whiteboard to try out at home. I say “us” but guess who couldn’t wait to get her little paws on it for a really thorough road test? 🙂
What is a Wedge Whiteboard?
Wedge Whiteboards are manufactured in the UK and the company have been supplying the education and home sectors with a variety of whiteboard styles and sizes for some years. Our A3 Wedge Whiteboard is double sided so can be used by more than one person at a time and – unusually – is dry-wipe and magnetic on both sides too. It comes with two magnetic board rubbers and four dry-wipe pens, which all slot neatly into each side. And it’s portable, lightweight, comes with anti-slip rubber feet, and can be used portrait or landscape style.
First impressions of the A3 Wedge Whiteboard
Flora already uses A5 portable whiteboards at school, they’re a valuable learning aid and way of encouraging interaction and participation during lessons. She’s also got an A5 whiteboard at home that she uses for doodles from time to time. But as soon as the Wedge was unboxed a couple of weeks ago, she hasn’t left it alone for more than a few minutes. The first night she even took it up to bed! And, rather to our surprise, she’s been using it in preference to having bed time stories ever since <sob>. When we asked her what she likes so much about whiteboards, this was her response:
“Because you can rub things out easily and start again.”
She’s always been creative and we have boxes and boxes of her doodles and notes (that I can’t bear to throw away) but this much larger A3 board seems to have really sparked her imagination.
How has Flora used her Wedge Whiteboard?
Maths is one of her favourite subjects (unlike me, who needs a calculator or Excel) and she’s enjoying practising her numeracy at home. She’s enjoying self-correcting too (also unlike me!).
Because the Wedge is so lightweight and portable, it’s been fantastic for games like Dragon School (the picture at the top of this page) and Equestria Cafe below.
Her favourite books at the moment are Francesca Simon’s Horrid Henry series. I mentioned that she likes taking the Wedge to bed – well this is what she came up with a couple of nights ago. Her own take on Horrid Henry, which she wants to send to Ms Simon to persuade her to hurry up and write more Horrid Henry books. I expect Cressida Cowell will be next on her list…
Another game that she invented was for a play date. She and a friend took a pen and one side of the Wedge each. I had to ask them to draw something but not tell them the name (a little like Pictionary). Eg, “Draw me something that flies at night, breathes fire, and has scales.” You get the idea – it was lots of fun!
Benefits of the Wedge Whiteboard
Quite apart from how easy the Wedge is to use, it’s versatile because two people can use it at the same time. It’s magnetic so if Alan and I are ever allowed to use it, it would be somewhere useful and visible to attach vouchers and coupons. And we could have a fantastic game of Battleships too #nerdalert 🙂
Because it’s easy to wipe clean, Flora isn’t using so much paper for her doodles now. And at A3 size, it’s small enough to be portable and fit into any home if you haven’t got much space. It’s certainly encouraged Flora to practice what she’s learned at school, and to think up creative games on her own. She was lucky enough to attend a Montessori nursery before starting school so she’s used to having choice and independence. Kids learn through play so anything that encourages and facilitates that has got to be a good thing.
Where can I buy a Wedge Whiteboard?
We have to say a huge thank you to Wedge Whiteboards for sending us their A3 Wedge, we’ve had so much fun with it in such a short space of time already. It’s definitely one of Flora’s favourite things to play with and it’s so lovely to see all the creative ways in which she’s making full use of it. It’s brilliant for drawing, revisiting learning from school, practising writing, playing games, and just having fun.
“Think left and think right and think low and think high.
Oh, the thinks you can think up if you only try!”
Dr Seuss.
If you’re looking for something your kids will play with for more than five minutes, that could help reinforce their learning, and will almost certainly ignite their creativity, then we think a Wedge Whiteboard is the way to go. We wouldn’t be without ours now, it’s been a really wonderful addition to our household.

It’s been a revelation TBH, I had no idea that Flora would take to it in the way that she has, she absolutely loves it 🙂 Good luck for the giveaway! xx
Flora is so cute haha! I used to LOVE it when we got the whiteboards out in Primary School. Honestly, I was such a nerd but I’d be buzzing. I also loved it when I got to write on the big white board and loved it even MORE when I got to rub stuff out. It’s soooo satisfying! This looks like a great product for the little ones! xxx
Aw, thank you 🙂 I know exactly what you mean about rubbing out being the best bit – even if my school days were more about blackboard and chalk, haha. Honestly, she just loves this Wedge, it’s such a brilliant bit of kit for kids! xx
Dragon school definitely sounds like a fun game! I love whiteboards, they’re so fun!
Tori
Dragon School is lots of fun – dinosaurs are also allowed 🙂
This looks like so much fun, and perfect for little kids especially since they can use it for whatever creative task tickles their fancy. 😀
That’s it exactly, it allows them to do whatever they want to and there’s no issue with making mistakes or starting again 🙂
These look like fabulous fun, Flora has a great little imagination I’m loving the dragon school! I could do with one of these for jotting down notes at home as I always have a billion pieces of paper with reminders on laying about!
Great review Lisa thanks for sharing, hope Flora eventually lets you have a look in so you can play a spot of battleships!

Ha, she really does, puts me to shame! She loves this Wedge so much, it’s been brilliant for her creativity, Alan and I are just going to have to be patient for a while longer, I think! X
I love whiteboards! And I also really love writing so I’s definitely love to own one in my own home. And really interesting post. Thank you for sharing!
If we could only get near this one I’m sure Alan and I would find it useful too, haha. But it’s so lovely to see how much pleasure Flora gets from it so we’ll be patient!
Aww this is such a cute post! So nice to see how much your little one enjoyed using it, I’m 21 and I’d love to have a whiteboard to play around with haha they’re so fun to just doodle on and bring back such good memories of messing around in school!
Alice Xx
Aw, thank you! She absolutely loves it, I would really like the opportunity to have a play too but she’s still taking it up to bed with her ? xx
I used to love using white boards at school so I would of absolutly loved this as a kid, it looks like it holds up so well too! I will definitely recommend this to any of my friends who have their own children 🙂 xxx
Kate
I feel cheated, my school days were all blackboard and chalk, haha! The Wedge is such a good product though, thank you so much for spreading the word, very much appreciated 🙂 xx
I love whiteboards! It’s so easy to write down your todo lists etc.. I don’t feel like I am hurting the environment for using so much paper with the copious amounts of lists I make. My only issue is that If I draw a really good picture, I can’t keep it. Cry!
I’m sure that’s true but as we haven’t been allowed to use it yet, I’ll just have to believe you! I’ve taken pictures of some of Flora’s doodles before she’s wiped them so at least we have a record 🙂 xx
Oh my lord I would’ve loved this as a kid! Endless fun. I’m so impressed with the creative ways Flora has put this to use too, she sounds like she’s got a huge imagination (also can I come for tea and cake at the Equestria Cafe?)
Beth x
Oh she has, I can’t keep up with her! And yes, definitely, please do come for tea and cake, although I can’t promise it will still be Equestria Cafe, it might have morphed into Dragon Cafe by the time you get here, haha!
Oh these white boards are so fun and easy to use. My kids used the whiteboard to study math science formulas drawing even for play. Earlier back in Bombay my large mirror was used for the same. haha!
I loved the way Flora enjoys this whiteboard. I just loved the pictures Lisa the dragons as students is amazing. 🙂
Your mirror! Goodness, you are a very tolerant mum, haha! Flora adores her whiteboard, she’s still coming up with ways to play with it, although the pens are all but run out now so I need to buy some more 🙂 thank you for your lovely comment, Dragon School is my favourite too xx
This would be perfect for little bear! He really enjoys drawing and such and being able to wipe it away again would be good as it saves paper plus we could do some at home teaching with it, sounds fab.
That’s exactly why Flora loves it so much – if she makes a mistake or wants to change something it’s so easy for her! I hope you’ve entered the giveaway then – fingers crossed!
