AD | When people talk about Whistler, their minds drift off to images of snow-covered peaks and beautiful endless views no matter who you talk to. But this incredible park is so much more than just a picture on postcards. So, if you’re curious about an outdoorsy trip to the oldest national park in Canada, here are five perfect outdoor escapes in Whistler that you should definitely plan to check out! But first…
Where is Whistler?
Whistler in British Columbia, Canada, is one of the largest, if not the largest, ski resort in North America and has the greatest uphill lift capacity. It’s also often the busiest ski resort, especially at Christmas, frequently surpassing two million visitors a year. Fun fact: Whistler was originally conceived as part of a bid to win the 1968 Winter Olympics. Although the bid failed, construction started anyway, and the resort opened for the first time in January 1966.
Five Perfect Outdoor Escapes in Whistler
And here are those top five attractions to enjoy – something for everyone, couples, solo travellers and family holidays alike, no matter what time of year you choose to visit. You can book your first trip with Iglu Ski, one of the largest ski travel agencies in the UK.
Whistler Blackcomb
Whistler Blackcomb is the most popular ski resort in Canada, and it has a lot of history under its belt. While visiting, you can do anything from hiking to skiing and enjoy the crisp air while spending time in a resort that’s made to be enjoyed year-round. Although the winter sports are only available for four to six months out of the year, you can still find plenty to see and do in this resort when it’s green on the ground rather than white.
Peak to Peak Gondola
If you’re not scared of heights and you want the best view you can get, the Peak to Peak Gondola is a thrilling experience that you’ll want to enjoy time and time again. Suspended safely in the air, you can glide over the mountains, the steep slope, and beautiful scenery and see more than you ever could on foot. So many tourists love to share their pictures of black bears or deer they saw while riding; maybe you’ll catch some amazing shots too!
Brandywine Falls
This tourist destination isn’t as scary as the gondola, but it’s just as breathtaking. The Brandywine Falls are a collection of falls and rivers you can sightsee by hiking trails, biking, or enjoying a guided tour. These beautiful formations will inspire you to take pictures and enjoy the serene atmosphere. Although it’s not what everyone thinks of as fun when going to a major skiing capital, it’s a fantastic way to reconnect with nature.
Lost Lake
Once a nude beach, Lost Lake is now dressed to the nines for any guests who visit and want to swim or go boating to enjoy their day. This scenic lake has beautifully clear glacial water that can look bright blue in the later months of summer. So, if you’re looking for real estate for sale in Whistler and need a break away from the stress and business, you should absolutely consider a breather by Lost Lake. You’ll fall in love with the scenery and will almost certainly not want to think about anything but relaxation.
Whistler Mountain
No good list of Whistler’s fantastic sights would be complete if it doesn’t include Whistler Mountain. Whistler mountain is a beautiful skiing and snowboarding destination with some of the country’s best slopes and peaks. Whether you’re new to the sports or a seasoned pro, and want to have some fun, there’s nothing as exciting as being able to say you went down Whistler Mountain. Some areas are blocked off during certain parts of the year, but as long as you follow the directions of the local guides, you’ll have a fantastic time on one of the best mountains in the world.
With Vancouver only a couple of hours down the scenic Highway 99, also known as the Sea to Sky Highway, Whistler really is a world of its own and has something to entertain and amaze everyone – so when will you be booking your first trip? 😊
Have you ever visited Whistler? Are you a skiing or snowboarding fan? Which of these five outdoor escapes in Whistler appeals most to you?
