AD | It is a fact universally acknowledged that however much money you make, you’ll never have enough at the end of the month. Whatever you earn, you’ll always want more money too. It’s very frustrating, isn’t it? And even more so if you’re trying to save for a wedding, a new car, a family holiday, an unexpected bill, or a child’s education. But there are actually lots of easy ways you could make some extra income. Here are seven side hustles you could consider to make more money, depending on how much you need, and how quickly.
Why do you want/need more money?
By choosing what it is that you want more money for, rather than just aimlessly trying to make extra cash, you’re much more likely to succeed. Picture your end goal regularly and make sure you talk about it too – the more real it is to you and to others, the more determined you’ll be to make it a reality. How great would it feel to have a little extra to put away in your savings each month? Or, if you’re looking for a longer-term account such as a new ISA, then visit this site* for a range of options.
Ways to make more money on the side
So, you could take on a second job if you have the time, or you could ask for more hours at your current job. If you fancy a flutter on the stock market you could investigate buying and selling shares from companies – such as Morrisons shares, for example. Or, what about trying to make more money each month by doing something you really enjoy? Not forgetting all the sites where you can earn free money too! The number of people who are dedicating their spare time to side hustles and earning plenty of extra money each month is growing. Could you be one of them?
Cleaning
There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who hate cleaning and will do anything to avoid it (that would be me), and those who love it. If you’re another Mrs Hinch, then doing a little cleaning on the side is an easy yet effective way to boost your income. A cleaning side hustle is simple to start and is also cheap! You can provide your own materials and take yourself from job to job, both homes and commercial premises. If you clean homes of people you know first, and they leave you some positive reviews on your business pages, your reputation will quickly grow and so will the number of your clients.
Babysitting
Babysitting isn’t just something we do as teens. It can actually be a very lucrative business. Again, start by babysitting the children of friends and family, and build a reputation for being a safe, fun and reliable babysitter. How many exhausted parents do you know who would jump at the chance for an evening out on their own? Yes, Alan and I have our hands up right now.
Deliver food
From Deliveroo to Uber Eats, food delivery is a big business nowadays, albeit mainly in the towns and cities (there’s not much call for Just Eat in rural areas…) Admittedly, you’ll need your own transport and you’ll have to work late hours, but it’s profitable and you’ll always be busy. People need to eat and many of us think nothing of phoning up for food to be delivered. And if you ride a bike, then you could get fit too 😉
Set up your own business
Let’s say your cleaning, babysitting, or food delivery side hustle really takes off. Have you got friends that might be interested in coming in with you? You could take a percentage of their earnings, like a finder’s fee, and if things really get going, you might find you won’t need to be hands-on any more. You could even set up your own agency or stable of freelancers!
Buy and resell
Have you ever bought and sold on eBay, Gumtree or Facebook? Acquiring items for free, or at a heavily discounted price, tidying them up, and then selling them on for a profit is a very straightforward way to earn more money. You could also create social media pages dedicated to the items you’re trying to sell alongside your eBay, Gumtree and Facebook profiles. In fact, this kind of work is so lucrative that many people do this full time.
Rent a room
Have you got a spare room at home? If so, why not consider renting it out and taking on a lodger? You can earn up to £7,500 a year tax-free, or £3,750 if you’re letting jointly. And you don’t even need to be a homeowner either. If you’re renting, you can also lease out a room to a lodger, as long as your own lease allows you to do so.
Affiliate sales
If you have a website or a blog, another way to boost your income is to sign up to affiliate programmes such as those run by Amazon or AWIN. So, when you recommend a product to your readers, you can include an affiliate link to that product in your copy. You could even offer a free downloadable printable alongside your affiliate link if you wish. Then, if someone buys that product after clicking on your link, you’ll earn a small percentage of the sale, at no cost to them. Of course, that does require quite a bit of promotion on your part, but many bloggers are making hundreds of pounds doing just this.

Ah, yes, Fiverr is another option but the undersell aspect is one to be wary of. I’ve heard better things about Upwork, although I haven’t tried either of them!

Online survey are another great way to make a little extra money; Prolific and Swagbucks are my favourites 😁 I let them build up to about £30, and then that’s my book-buying money for the month!

These are some great ideas. My blog is my side hustle – mostly from working with brands. I did try Amazon Affiliates once but they dropped me as I had NO clicks. 🙁 I’ve also have a lot of success selling goods on E-bay and Facebook Marketplace.
