AD | Ah, Christmas. Every year the search for a cool new Christmas top begins in the October half term. It’s an elusive beast that I never quite manage to trap. At least that’s what Flora, my daughter, tells me. But this year there’s a whole new game in town: the chance to design her own personalised Christmas top, courtesy of Design Bundles.
Design Bundles
Design Bundles began in July 2016 as a way to provide customers with affordable digital products such as Graphics, Templates, Mock Ups, Patterns, Illustrations and Craft Files. Today, over one million users browse more than 150,000 marketplace products to take advantage of savings and custom designs from independent designers.
We downloaded the Meddling Kids handwriting font package and a sweatshirt template. For those graphic designers among you, the Meddling Kids design is a double-uppercase handwriting font (two sets of uppercase letters, one set mapped to the uppercase and one to the lowercase) so you can mix and match letters within a word. Available in both OTF and TTF file formats, one set is a regular size and one a wider version for more variety. If, however, you don’t like these handwriting fonts then you could always choose another free font instead.
Flora’s personalised Christmas top
I knew exactly what kind of Christmas top Flora would go for. Luckily for her (and for me), there are plenty of free to use transparent PNG files of Toothless available on the Internet. So, here’s how to design your own personalised top.
Step One
Install the downloaded Design Bundles fonts in your computer’s Fonts directory. Open the Design Bundles sweatshirt template in Photoshop. Or, if you don’t have Photoshop, find a free online file converter or ask someone who does have it to export the PSD template as a JPEG file that you can then work with.
Step Two
Upload your sweatshirt JPEG into Canva*, decide on your slogan and start typing. Move the text around and resize it to suit your sweatshirt template.
Step Three
Download your transparent PNG graphic (we found Toothless via Google), upload to Canva*, and paste on top, moving it around and resizing it to suit.
Step Four
Download a suitably festive transparent PNG graphic, upload to Canva*, and paste on top, moving it around and resizing it to suit. Ta dah!
Step Five
We also trialled Steps Three and Four with a different version of Toothless, which I rather like too, so that may well end up as a top for me!
Final thoughts on Flora’s new personalised Christmas top
Unsurprisingly, she loves it and can’t wait to get it printed. Whether or not she’ll be willing to wait until Christmas Day to wear it is another matter entirely, of course… So what do you think? Would you be tempted to design your own personalised Christmas top too? Or if not for you, as the perfect Christmas gift for a child, friend, or partner. Honestly, the whole process on Design Bundles couldn’t be simpler, and we were very impressed. And the real bonus is that it’s one less stress on the To Do List at what might be the most wonderful but also the busiest time of year!
Have you ever designed your own Christmas top before? If not, would you like to? What design would you choose? And how much do you LOVE Canva*?!

It’s so good, isn’t it? And yes, all the more special because she was able to choose her design. Ariel sounds wonderful, I’d love to see how you make her Christmassy (easier than a dragon, I’m sure, haha!) xx

It really is, a perfect gift for a child and yes, the design process is super easy. Thank you, Via! x
This is such a great idea – I really need not to invest in more Christmas jumpers as I already have too many, but I mean, there’s 25 days in December to wear them, so what is one more! ♥
That has to be the BEST reason to buy another Christmas jumper I have ever heard, I love your style!!!
This looks great Lisa! I’ve tried designing my own t-shirts before where I printed the design on to transfer paper. It worked well but they never survived the wash. 🙁
Thank you, it was a lot of fun 🙂 But my goodness, you’re clever, I wouldn’t know where to start without a proper template!
